According to Hugh Holland, GM of Canada's director of materials management and components operations, the Delco Products Oshawa operation will hire an estimated 35 hourly and four salaried personnel for the second shift, which is expected to begin production of trailing axles for 1993-model-year cars in July 1992. The second shift will allow Delco Products to service GM's U.S. plants that produce the Chevrolet Lumina, Buick Regal, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme and Pontiac Grand Prix. The Oshawa plant's 60 employees currently are producing axles for the Luminas and Regals built at GM of Canada's Autoplex vehicle assembly facility in Oshawa. Ax- le production for the U.S. plants currently is handled by an outside supplier. With the second shift, GM's Delco Products Oshawa opera- tions will be the sole North American supplier of trailing ax- les for GM's mid-size "W-car" sedans and coupes. Oshawa will also be given product design and sourcing responsibility, according to Holland. i He added that the Delco Pro- ducts Oshawa operation has pro- ven it can produce the trailing ax- les at highly competitive costs and top quality. Delco Products Division, head- quartered in Dayton, Ohio, is a division of General Motors Cor- poration. It supplies technical resources and sales support to Delco Products Oshawa operation.
