They tell us who we are when we are disoriented by situational stress or disease. From them we find our roots, bearings and reorientation. Without them, we are unable to solve even the most rudimentary of life's problems. When surveys are conducted among the general population about peo- ple's greatest fears, loss of memory is always among the five most frequently named. The older the respondent, the more likely loss of memory is to be listed as the greatest fear. Some interpreters of these findings focus on the dementia of the aged. To be sure, many elderly citizens associate fear of losing their "mind" with the aging process. We are all too likely to have been exposed to those who, once wise and witty, are now devoid of those characteristics we associate with brain functions whether from general senility or Alzheimer's Disease. In fact, a very small percentage of our aged popula- tion has or will have any form of dementia. | suspect their fear is based more on the elderly person's insights of ex- - perience - they know how precious are their memories and the ability to have mental recall. } PLEASE DIRECT ANY INQUIRIES TO HAROLD WAGG ... 985-2171 \ EAE aa rE ES PEE LA BREEN ERE ES ERE EE EES LIES EE EE Mid May already! The kindergarten class at Scugog Christian School is continuing with their unit "My Feelings" - looking at anger and jealousy last week, and joy and happiness this week. They are learning how the Bible teaches us to deal with these feelings. In math, the class is writing numbers up to 50 and in Bible they have discussed the lives of King David and King Saul and they are now talking about worship: why, how and where. Memory work this week is verse 3 of Psalm 150. The grade one and two class has finished Paul's missionary journeys in Bible and are now stu- dying the book of James. In social studies they are learning about wheat, and how it is processed in- to bread. And, the June 8 class trip to Toronto Island is getting closer! We now have enough drivers and extra helpers. Please continue to pray for a nice warm visit Que y. The 3, 4, and 5 class has arriv- ed in Switzerland, in social studies, and taken a tour through the mountains and some cities by train, bus and boat using a 'Swiss Pass." We will be studying how the geography affects the way people live and how it influences the products they manufacture. The students are asked to bring in items from home made in Switzerland. As part of the unit, a cheese and chocolate fondue is planned for next Wednesday. Sports Day is coming up and the class has been practicing diligently, despite the rainy weather. May 30th is sure to be a great day. Then, on May 31st the - class will be going to the Science Centre. The grade 8's had a wonderful trip to Quebec City two weeks ago. They saw interesting sights, learned a great deal and laughed a lot together. The six and seven class had three good days with urch PORT PERRY PRINCE ALBERT UNITED CHURCH Rev. D. Robert J. The Scugog Christian Society membership meeting - potluck supper of May 15 was a long one. Concerns were expressed about the elimination of transportation next year, but the board felt a balanced budget was a must. Alternatives to busing are being explored. Joy was expressed over the fact that an extra teacher has been hired for the coming year. Our children enjoy attending our school and we anticipate another happy year with quality education and many side benefits!
