And they lit the hearts of just about everyone in the audi- ence for the four sold-out perf- mances. And this coming weekend, - theyll be on the stage again for _the final three shows, Thurs- day, Friday and Saturday even- ings at 8:00 PM. Set in the "dirty 30's" at the height of the depression, the. story follows "Annie," played by Melissa Kroonenberg as she o" *, "escapes" frdm an ofphanage to! - the mansiori of billionaire ty- coon Oliver Warbucks, played by Brad Goreski. It's a heart warming tale as "Annie" is eventually adopted by the crusty Warbucks who really falls for this waif of a girl. In her first lead role, Melis- sa as "Annie" was a bundle of high powered energy on the stage, displaying a clear voice in her many solo songs. Brad Goreski has had sev- eral lead roles in Millar Light and Choral Society shows, and as Warbucks, he got the chance to show off his acting talents. With his double-breasted suits, his after dinner jackets, he looked the part of a rich ty- coon. And from the moment he appeared on stage barking or- ders to his mansion staff, he sounded like one, too. Leslie Bradley as War- bucks secretary Grace played this role with cool competence, all business, just as one would imagine her tobe. The supporting cast in the orphange, Warbucks mansion staff of valets and maids, the Hooverville down and outers on the streets of New York, the senators, and those for the radio show, were nothing short of first rate, with fine timing and a sense of dramatic flair. As Ms. Hannigan, the di- rector of the orphanage, Vanes-- sa Mumford played this brazen and brassy role marvellously. And when she teamed up. with Kent Jamieson (the sly, co- niving Rooster) and Karen Ma- hony (the gum-smacking, eye- lash fluttering Lily) the audi- ence loved their wonderful "Easy Streets" song and dance routine. In fact, the acting, singing and dancing through the entire show was paced and polished to the point where one had to stop to remember that the charac- 'Annie is a heart-wa 'large 1 ters on the stage are young chil- dren. The show is pro- duced by Karen Burns, and a number of dedicated peo- ple worked long hours on sets, rming fale props, costumes, make-up and a lot of other things which added to the success of this produc- tion. i Take a big bow, Millar Lights. If "Annie" is any indic- dation, local audiences will be - waiting for the "sun to come up tomorrow" on your next produc- tion, whatever that maybe. - Cancer Society extends {invitationto The Scugog Branch of the Canadian Cancer Society will be holding its annual meeting on June 6, and a warm invita- tionis extended to all.
