The head table guests who included Mayor Howard Hall, - Legion Branch 419 representative Doug Butt, Liz and Greg Smith representing the sponsor Church of the Ascension, District Com- missioner Len Skidmore, Ellen Greenough Chairperson of the Group Committee were introduc- ed by Allynne Jones who acted as Master of Ceremonies. Doug Butt brought greetings from the legion and Greg Smith complimented the group on their growth since the Church of the Ascension had taken over the sponsorship. Father Charles Bull, Chaplain for 1st Port Perry said Grace. A delicious hot turkey supper and home made pies catered by the U.C.W. was enjoyed by 100 guests. Greetings were extended by Len Skidmore from the Pine Ridge District Council and he thanked the group for the people who help him at District Council. Ellen Greenough is treasurer, Karen Sanders is secretary and Lloyd Greenough is on Cub Ser- vice Team. A ten year service pin from the Provincial Council was presented to Cub Leader Gord Mercer by Len Skidmore as well as service pins to the other leaders. Lloyd Greenough then presented the trophies from the Kub Kar races held earlier in February at the Legion to Matthew Bramhan 1st in speed, Jeff Morden 1st in Boy Only Design, Jeremy Heyworth 1st Boy and Parent Design, and Matthew Dufoe best paint. A new trophy added this year in memory of Russell Dionne to the boy who "did his best" work on his Kub Kar was presented to Todd Larson. i For the third year in a row the Emmerson Insurance Bike Rodeo trophy was presented to Jeff Morden who won the District Event April 21 at Cartwright. Gord Mercer gave a brief descrip- tion on what the leaders look for when deciding who will get the ow Sh Cameron Flieler and Jeff Morden have been named Scout and Cub of the Year for the First Port Perry groups and recelved their plaques at a banquet on Saturday. With the boys are Scout leader Bob Brown (left) and Cub leader Lloyd Greenough. "Cub of the Year Award" and how it was a hard choice because all the boys had done a good job. Jeff Morden who had acted as a Keeo finally was decided to be the most deserving. Lloyd stated that 1st Port Perry was sending 5 boys to the Regional Kub Kar Race in Oshawa on April 29. A new annual plaque, "The Arthur Daines Memorial Plaque," to be award- ed to people for exemplifying ser- vice beyond what is expected of them to scouting was given to Larry Emmerson, Allynne Jones, Doug Morden and Ellen Greenough. Two plaques were also made to be presented to Chic Carnegie and Ray Wilson for their help in Scouting, but unfortunat- ly they could not attend and so they will be presented at a later date. Bob Brown, Scout Leader, then presented Cameron Flieler with a medal for Scout of the Year and a plaque will be presented later. Bob explained that this was presented to Cameron for his display of the Scouting Spirit and who best fulfilled the Scouting Program. Xx tion to Scouting was shown and was enjoyed by the parents as well as the boys. A letter of Ap- preciation was presented to Sue Palermo for her help. Father Charles closed the evening with a short prayer. All the Beavers & Cubs received photographs as well as their service stripes. The banquet was arranged by Lori Milligan, Allynne Jones and Ellen Greenough. The leaders for Port Perry this year are: Beavers, Beth Potter, Michael Coxon, Chuck Mercier, John Breen, Fred Moffat, Steve Churchill, Don Foster and Vince Palermo.
