13 Girl Guides awarded by Heather McCrae From March 30th to April 1st the First and Fourth Port Perry Brownies attended a weekend of camping at Camp Samac with their leaders Deanna Harper, Denna Howsam, Lori Goreski, Cherrie Evans and Courtney Williamson. Everyone enjoyed the culinary flare of their quartermaster, Yvonne Walmsley, and Joanne Popovitch was the leader-in- charge. The theme of the camp was "Alice in Wonderland." The girls enjoyed crafts, hiking, housekeeping chores and had a "Queen of Hearts" tea party. Badges they worked on were Holi- day, Explorer, Friend to Birds, Weavers and Housekeeping. On the Saturday evening, while . enjoying a campfire and songs, Courtney Williamson was presented with her All Round Cord by Joanne Popovitch. The girls and their leaders all reported a good time was had by --_ all! AN : On this same weekend the Third Port Perry Brownies went cam- ping at Camp Adelaide in Haliburton. Their theme for the weekend was "dinosaurs."' The girls enjoyed hiking, searching for stones at a nearby gravel pit that were used in a craft, camp- fires and singsongs. The ice was still on the lake hut some of the girls soon found out it wasn't that thick, a lesson well learned before any serious conse- quences occurred. The camp , leaders were Isabelle Bell and Joan Rudkin. The four regular leaders from the pack were Sharyl Bell, Theresa Wood, Marg Squires and Judy Davidson. All the girls received a Camp Adelaide crest as a memento and they all earned their Singer and Camp badges. Everyone agreed the experience was a lot of fun and they're all ready to do it again. The First Port Perry Guides under the leadership of Joanne Hyndman and Wendy Topham recently finished the work on the Citizenship badge. The girls are going to visit a Baskin Robbins store soon and threat themselves to a chocolate or vanilla Cookies 'n Cream cone with real pieces of Girl Guide Cookies. On April 9th the First Port Perry Brownies joined the girls as they all worked together on an' Easter craft and saw a slide show on the World Centres of Guiding. Judy Topham has taught the girls the Business Communica- tions badge. Highlights of this badge are learning how to place an ad in the local newspaper, fill- ing out various banking papers, instructions on how to buy a postal money order and how to use it and finally how to write a' proper business letter. At a special service Sunday, 13 guides were presented with their All Round Cord at Port Perry United Church. It takes per- sistence and a lot of hard work to earn the All Round Cord. Congratulations is extended to Tracey Lynn Chadwick, Kara Newell, Robin Popovitch, Karen Wilson, and Jackie Woodcock of the First Port Perry Guides; Kimberley Fabiano and Michelle Wall of the First Seagrave Guides and from the Fourth Port Perry Guides, Tiffany Barnhardt, Jen- * nifer Cooper, Kathleen Lang, ' Heather Osborne, Amanda Pelyk and Katie Senyk. Congratulations girls on a job well done. It really gives a girl a lot of pride and a feeling of accomplishment when she obtains the All Round Cord and hopefully many of these girls will go further in the program and 'go for' the Canada Cord. The Second Port Perry Pathfinders are planning a cam- ping trip in July at Camp Ademac, the new camp owned by the Oshawa Division located on the Shirley Road. Recently the girls made an outdoor oven to use at camp this summer. Yesterday the Pathfinders pitched in and cleaned up at the Prince Albert cemetery, then back to Joanne Popovitch's house to use their out- door ovens and cooked brownies!
