The charter plane with 140 passengers left Montreal Sunday evening. 20 YEARS AGO Thursday, May 7, 1970 Mrs. Mary MacGregor has been appointed Accountant at the local branch of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Mrs. MacGregor has been a life-long resident of Port Perry. Ac- cording to Don McRitchie, bank manager, this is the first time a lady has received such an appointment here and it comes following 16 years of employment for Mrs. MacGregor in the local bank. Mrs. Edna Ingram, librarian at the War Memorial Library in Port Perry, accepted a complete 1969 edition of the Port Perry Star from Publisher, Per Hvidsten. Morley Parish, Port Perry, finished second in the Miles for Millions march held in Oshawa last Saturday. Morley ran the entire 32 mile course in 5 hours and 15 minutes. While catching mud cats last week, Cleve Kight thought he had a bass on the line, but it turned out to be a giant mudcat, weighing 1% 1bs., which is 7 times the size of the average Scugog mudcat. Larry Emmerson and Anna Forder have been appointed co- managers of advertising for the Durham College monthly magazine, '"'Drum."' 10 YEARS AGO Wednesday, April 30, 1980 The Port Perry High School held its annual 'At Home" dance Friday evening and Wendy Bracken was chosen Queen for 1980 and Kelly Owen was selected Princess. A Sunday afternoon fire destroyed the farm house and all contents owned by Harold Medd on the Purple Hill Road west of Blackstock. The blaze broke out about 2 p.m. and is thought to have started from maple sap which was being boiled off near the house. : The Rev. Paul Erb of Hampton will be the guest preacher at the 94th Anniversary Service of Port Perry United Church on Sunday, May 4. A surprise presentation was made at the Ringette Banquet in the form of a plaque stating the associations appreciation to Judy Young. Mrs. Young and her family will be leaving Port Perry this year and it was through her motivation that the Port Perry Ringette Association was formed. Grant Williams, who has served on the Port Perry Minor Hockey Association Executive for the past three years, has been named as President of that organization at the annual meeting held at the Old Town Hall on Sunday, April 27. Spent Borelians Theatre group ready fo perform a Festival of One Act Plays The Borelians Community Theatre is pleased to announce a Festival of One Act Plays. Festival Director John H. Foote calls this event not a competition but rather a celebration of live theatrical drama and of the One Act Play itself. All participants and audience members will have an opportunity to attend, mingle and make new friends. Foote believes that a great deal of talent and expertise exists not only in Toronto but also in our own com- munity and it is time to showcase and promote that talent. Nine plays will be presented over a period of three evenings. Local Community Theatre groups have been invited along with strong background in Dramatic Arts/Theatre Arts Programs.
