Nestleton General UCW Meeting Although, a stormy evening, a very good attendance was on hand for the meeting, held in the church with General President Jean Williams in the chair. She extended a cordial welcome to all and opened with a poem entitled, 'An Easter Promise." An effective devotional service was presented by Barb Weir; theme *'On the Cross" with Janice MacKenzie reading Scripture Isaiah 53. The fine old Easter hymn "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung with Gwen Malcolm at the piano. This portion of the meeting closed with prayer. Minutes were approved as read by Sec'y Barb Weir; and Treas. statement by Kay Notman show- ed a healthy balance. During business the UCW will be catering for the 'Reception' for Sam, Sat., May 12 from 2-5 p.m. at the Nestleton Community Centre; and the annual Spring Smorgasbord will be held May 11, with settings 5 p.m. & 6:30 p.m. Adults $8.00. A few guests from Blackstock joined with Nestleton UCW to hear the guest speaker Edgar Kirss, who was introduced by Joanna Malcolm. Members and guests were given an overview of Latvian history (a brief general survey) Points of interest: Baltic countries are all culturally related and an integral part of Europe. Latvia was settled ap- prox. 2000 years before Christ. 80 percent of the worlds Amber washes up on the shores of Poland, Latvia and Lithuania. During the late 40's & 50's approx- imately 25000 immigrated to Canada. About 15000 in Toronto. Only 52 percent of the 2 million who populate Latvia today are Latvian. Pictures, native dance costume, a stringed instrument (like a Zither) and jewellery were displayed. Gwen Malcolm ex- pressed the appreciation to the speaker. To top off an interesting evening; lovely refreshments were served by the Evening Unit. Good Friday Service The Good Friday Service hosted by Nestleton United Church, for the Blackstock - Nestleton Charge was solemn; marked by grave and earnest sobriety! A large wooden Cross with Crown of thorns rested on the Communion Table. Rev. Dale Davis conducted the sombre ser- vice, with readings by various members from both congrega- tions interspersed with Scripture readings. Hymns and Anthems by both choirs, and a solo by Herb Vine; made the Service for Good Friday meaningful. Capable organist Gwen Malcolm and pianist Linda Kyte; made the day special! Easter Service The Easter Services were held; first a Sunrise Service held at the home of Roy & Linda Bradburn, Blackstock, with a good atten- dance; and a fine service. The regular Easter Service was held in Nestleton Church, April 15, 11:15 a.m. with a large congrega- tion. Easter Lilies enhanced the Sanctuary to add much to the celebration of this joyous Easter Day! Rev. Dale Davis presented an excellent message entitled, "Up 2nd gone - Waiting for You' re - the meaning of the Easter ex- perience! Glenn Malcolm was the reader. The children's theme was also of interest! The choir sang an Easter number with Gwen at the organ. Arnold Williams and Ar- thur Weir rec'd the offering. Art & Barb Weir - the friendly greeters at the door. Service closes with the fine, rousing hymn "Rejoice, the Lord is King" Benediction and Amen. Nestleton Presbyterian CHurch The Easter message was preached by Rev. Wm. Fairley to the congregation of Nestleton Presbyterian Church. The Psalm reading was Psalm 118 and Scrip- ture Jeremiah 31:1-6 & St. John 20: 11-18. The Sunday School retired to classes after their lessons on "The needs of Easter" which is always the love of Jesus. May the love of the Saviour give light that overcomes the darkness of the world. Easter lilies and other potted plants graced the chancel. A good recovery is wished for Mrs. Fairley who is in Lindsay Hospital. * Community Church Caesarea A very large attendance at the Caesarea Church on Easter Sun- day, April 15, 11 a.m. Several ladies took the interesting ser- vice. Lynn Arney led the Service and Karen Buchanan was the song leader. Cecile Gibbons & Karen read the lessons. Norma Spek brought the Easter message; emphasing the impor- tance of the truth of the Resurrec- tion of Christ; the son of God, who died on Calvary for our sins. An excellent presentation of His work. The Sunshine Club singers gave beautiful renditions; two numbers for the service.
