This arrangement brings the total price to $140,000 Council had the option of (From page 1) the four other councillors voting in favour of the acquisition. The brief exchange was one of the few times since the last election that councillors have been visibly angry to the point of raising their voices over an is- sue at a public meeting. What touched off the anger was a discussion on whether Scugog should acquire a mecha- nized sweeper for cleaning streets and catch basins. The Township budgets about $20,000 each year for this job, contraéting it out to a pri- vate company. But Roads superintendent Ronn MacDonald reported to council on Monday that it's get- ting more difficult each year for a small municipality to line up street sweeping at this time of year because the private opera- tors are accepting large con- tracts with the provincial roads department and regional mu- nicipalities. Council agreed to acquire the sweeper from Lindsay Steel and Fabricating. The Township will enter a lease-to-purchase agreement at $2126 per month for 48 months, and then have the option of a buy-out for an additional an outright purchase * for $100,000 bu't opted for the lease arrangement so as not to lose in- terest of about $10,000 per year. Mr. MacDonald, who 'in- spected the machine last week, told council that it will serve the Township needs, and is sound mechanically. It is expected the Township will take delivery by the end of this month.
