18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 3, 1990 Two seriously injured as cars collide A two car accident Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 47 and Durham Road 23 sent at least two persons to hospital, one in critical condi- tion. Whitby OPP would not make publie the identity of the critically injured man who was driving a late-model Olds Cut- lass with Michigan plates . An OPP spokesman said Monday police were still trying to notify next-of-kin in Michi- gan and the name would not be released until then. A passenger in this car was also injured, though the exact extent of the injuries is not known. Police said the accidident happened about 4:00 PM when a Ford Taurus driven by Sheila Withey of RR 1, Brechin was northbound on the Regional Road and collided broadside with the second vehicle, which was westbound on Highway 47, just east of Uxbridge. The impact flipped the Cut- lass over in the ditch and - caused extensive damage to both vehicles. Police said Monday the ac- cident remains under investiga- tion and charges are pending. Residential development Twp. priority (From page 1) nearly 500 new housing units. And that's after the alloca- tion has been handed out for projects already well into the planning stages, such as the 90 unit condominium project at the lakeshore on Highway 7A What council has to wrestle "with in the near future, is how many units can be approved and where. There are currently four development areas that could be serviced with sewers. Three are in the south end of Port Perry, in the area of Un- ion Ave., and on the west side of the Oshawa Road, across from the Johnson Controls factory. The other area is on the west side of Simcoe Street, just south of Durham Road 8. Not only will council have to decide how many units should be allocated to each area, but also the type of hous- ing. From a discussion at the . meeting Monday afternoon, it would appear as if council wants to see a mix of housing in these areas: single detached, semi-detached, row housing, perhaps even some apartment units. And Mkh Seu facing a slowdown in the development industry this year, and with a growing reluctance to approve new developments on wells and septic systems, council wants to see some "housing action" start to take place, and soon. The overall assessment growth rate for 1990 is project- ed at just over three per cent, a far cry from the recent boom years when the growth was up-, wards of six per cent. Not only is the assessment rate lagging, the Township is not generating revenue from lot levies and other development fees, revenue that is used for a variety of purposes. | EVER THOUGHT Compe Hi Tac pr.
