Until last December the late Mrs. Stone had enjoyed relative- ly good health until she suffered a serious fall which caused an in- creasing decline in her health dur- ing the past two months. The late Mrs. Stone was a quiet and gentle lady who possessed a tenacious and ambitious spirit. Her first love was always her family which formed the very centerpiece of her existence followed closely by an intense fondness for propagating some of the very loveliest roses. Always a hard-working woman she found great relaxation and enjoyment tending her flowers and her vegetable garden. She was also noted for her excellent culinary abilities. As one of her grandchildren, one of my fondest memories of my beloved Grandma were the bags of cookies she would make sure each one of us had when we were leaving following a Sunday afternoon visit. A treat each one of us delighted in receiving. A delight beyond compare to her was the arrival of each new grandchild and great-grandchild. Each one becoming a valuable jewel to her. Born on August 4, 1892 in Seagrave, Ontario on the century farm of her parents now owned by her nephew Mr. and Mrs. Charles Short. She was the eldest of three children born to the late James and Etheliah Short. Her two brothers William and Lewis Short both predeceased her several years ago. On May 1, 1911 Myrtie Jane Short became the bride of Mr. Milton Stone. They continued their lives together in the Seagrave area and were blessed with the arrival of three daughters, Ruth, Alexa and Mildred. Mr. Stone operated a sawmill as well as doing custom threshing in the surrounding vicinity until a series of strokes forced him to retire and eventual- ly led to his passing in 1966. Mrs. Stone remained in the family home until February of 1984 when she sold her home and moved from her beloved Seagrave to the villa in Port Perry and from there to the Nursing Home. She remain- ed there until her death. Left with precious memories to share are her daughters, Alexa, (Mrs. Gordon McMillan), Mildred (Mrs. Kenneth Rodd) and son-in- law Mr. Hugh Strong, all of Port Perry. Also a foster daughter Mrs. Earl Whitaker of Shirley. Her eldest daughter Ruth (Mrs. | 4 To better serve the people of Port Perry and Area HOGAN'S HEARING AID CENTRES -- NOW OPEN -- MONDAY & WEDNESDAY 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (both days) JACK MERLIN 230 QUEEN STREET, 985-4422 Hugh Strong) predecedsed her in November 1971. Also grand- daughters Mrs. Marie Geer of Utica, Mrs. June McHugh of Port Perry, Mrs. Ruby Dearborn of Prince Albert, Mrs. Joyce Ashton of Oakwood, Mrs. Isabel Vernon of Seagrave, Mrs. Marilyn Beacock and Mrs. Shirley Foster of Port Perry and grandsons Mr. David McMillan of Oro Station, Mr. Ronald McMillan of Guelph and Mr. Keith Rodd of Uxbridge as well as their respective spouses. Mrs. Stone had 31 great- grandchildren and 2 - great-great- grandchildren. She also has nephews who will mourn her loss. The service was conducted from the Wagg Funeral Home in Myrtie Jane Stone Port Perry on Saturday, February 24, 1990 with the Rev. David Shepherd officiating. Spring interment will take place in Pine Grove Cemetery in Prince Albert. Dainty refreshments were kind- ly provided to the guests by the Seagrave U.C.W. ladies in the Seagrave United Church follow- ing the service. The family wish to acknowledge with appreciation the floral tributes as well as the many kindnesses extended to their loved one by her friends and the wonderful staff at the nursing home. Your thoughtfulness will be forever remembered. Ralph F. Cawker It was with shocked disbelief, followed by a great sense of grief and loss, when Ralph Forsyth Cawker passed away suddenly, after a brief illness at Scar- borough Centenary Hospital, on Wednesday, March 7, 1990 in his 48th year. Ralph was born in Port Perry Hospital, May 21, 1942, the youngest son of Sam & Mabel Cawker of Nestleton. He received his education at Port Perry public and secondary schools. A lover of music and art, in which he excelled, and in his leisure hours he spent much time fishing, hunting, riding his favourite horse..Tarzan, playing baseball, etc. He taught music in Toronto for some years and played saxophone - clarinet and flute with the different bands, his life work. : A very generous, warm hearted person, with an ever ready smile, Ralph had earned many friends, both in Port Perry and Toronto. He leaves to mourn, besides his parents, wife Sylvia, and the family, Chandre, Jason and Jacob of Scarborough, brothers Arthur of Sudbury, Alan and Grant of Oshawa, and friend Diane Riccio of Scarborough. Visitations were held at the Wagg-McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home in Port Perry followed by the service...of- ficiating clergyman Rev. Dale Davis from the Blackstock charge, who provided a warm, sincere message of comfort to the family, relatives and friends. After the service, relatives and friends gathered at the Masonic Hall where lovely refreshments were served by Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238, Order of the Eastern Star.
