The Eleanor Knight Group of the Women's Missionary Society met at the home of Lois Daw last Wednesday afternoon with 8 members present. Chrissie McKinney conducted the worship. The meeting opened with singing "O Master Let Me Walk With Thee." Scripture reading from St. Matthew 4 was read. Muriel Fisher continued in our study on Africa. Refreshments were serv- ed by our hostess. The Ladies bi- ble Class will meet on Wednesday afternoon of this week at 2:00 at the church. Epsom Sunday School students to hold Majic Show this week | UTICA AREA NEWS BY VERA BROWN United Church events this week include Sunday School teachers meeting on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. in Epsom Church. Choir practise on Thursday at 8 p.m. in Epsom Church. Church and Sunday school ser- vices this week in Utica Church at 11;15 a.m.. Sunday at 7;30 p.m. in Epsom Church the Sunday School has organized an All Church Birthday Party with special entertainment a Magic Show by Steve Hepburn with refreshments to follow. All are welcome. Looking ahead, the Session meets at Utica Church on Tues- day, March 20th at 7:30 p.m.. On the same evening a Creative Circle Party will be held at Lisa Risebrough's. This is to be an op- portunity for a Ladies Craft Night once a month and getting together for a chit-chat session and refreshments. If interested, R.S.V.P. by March 15 at 985-9920. Mrs. Doreen English of Cardiff was a weekend guest with daughter Pat and John Sutherland and children. Bert and Lise Mitchell have returned home from a 16 day motor tour of the U.S. visiting such places as Nashville, Tenn. where they attended a show, New Orleans where they took a trip on a river boat on the Mississippi, took in a rodeo in Texas and visited Mexico. Belated congratulations to Bert and Lise on the arrival in January of their 10th grandchild, a son, Thomas Joseph born to their daughter Carla. Congratulations to Carla and Eric Meester of Orono. Grade 8's see "Treasure Island" PRINCE ALBERT NEWS BY PEGGY BREDIN Angie Dowson, daughter of Ken and Maureen is still skating up a storm. She came in third for a bronze at the Junior Ladies Com- petition in North Bay. She has succeeded in getting her fourth figure and we all wish her luck on Wednesday when she tries -her Senior Silver in Whitby. Jean Martyn was completely surprised when nearly 20 of her family and close connections gathered at the Martyn home to honour Jeans birthday March 7. Relatives came from Toronto, Oshawa, and Seagrave. There was delicious food. Speaking of birthday's, Maréh has been a very popular month for them. Irene Moore, Pat and Clayton Love, John Bredin and his daughter Heather all had bir- thday's this month. Beth Willes had to celebrate her birthday a wee bit early because her Beth Wheeler new dairy specialist Beth Wheeler has been ap- pointed the O.M.A.F. Dairy Specialist out of the Brighton Of- fice. She replaces Ron Parker who resigned to take a Dairy Specialist position with Purina. Beth is a 1976 University of Guelph graduate with a major in Animal Science. She completed a Masters Degree in 1978 in Calf Nutrition. Since 1980, Beth has been with the Kemptville College of Agricultural Technology. In ad- dition to teaching animal produc- tion, she conducted dairy cattle research and supervised the Col- lege dairy herd. Beth is looking forward to meeting and working with the dairy farmers in Durham West. daughter Paula was leaving for Florida. Also in Florida are the Hopes with Andrew Pereman and Mark Willes is there with friends. I hope the weather is beautiful for them. Helen Jewel, Janet Vernon and Pat Love travelled to the U.C.W. annual meeting of the Oshawa Presbytry on March 7. Prince Albert's basketball teams have really improved over the last weeks. Mrs. Phendler and Mr. Christensen have been doing a super job. Their passing game is great; now they are trying to get baskets. On March 7th, the grade 8's from R.H. Cornish ventured off to Ryerson Theatre to see Treasure Island. John and the kids and I spent the weekend at the cottage snowmobiling. The weather was great. The winners for the evening were Elsie Pogue, Grace Manns, Verna Fraser, Pat Nor- ton, George Harper and Grant Bright. Lucky draws Richard Manns, Marie Geer and Rachel Harper. Hope your leg will soon be better Bert, we miss you. The Hospital Auxiliary are holding a Euchre and Bridge par- ty on Tuesday March 20 in the Prince Albert Community Centre. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. for dessert and refreshments. Games to start at 1:30, price $3.00 each with special prizes. Come and bring a friend and support the building fund. There was a fairly good turn out at church on Sunday even with so many away on winter break. Rev. Tansley took the service as Rev. LaPage and family are having some time off. The choir sang a lovely anthem. Margaret Tansley took the Sermon "Faith is a Verb" as her husband had a bad cold. The U.C.W. will meet on Wed. March 14 in the church hall at 8:00 p.m.. Junior choir practise will be held Sunday morning at 10 a.m. Any Children 8 years and up who like to sing are invited to come. Then on Monday March 19, the ladies fellowship night at Maxims at 7 p.m.. Cars will be leaving church at 6:30. Nadine Eenling of Prince Albert has been chosen to receive A Dordt College Merit Scholar- ship. A senior at Durham Chris- tian High School, Nadine is the daughter of George and Lena Eenling. The Merit Scholarship award was based on recognition of the student's academic standing, ACT scores, and extracurricular involvement. Annual renewal of the scholarship will be based on the student's maintaining a B average. Dordt College, a Christian liberal-arts college in northwest Iowa, enrolls approximately 1,000 students in more than 40 academic programs.
