If you haven't reserved tickets, you may be lucky when you call Ivan Jef- frey 985-3969 or Bonnie Bell's daughter 985-2020. Wednesday March 21, the Women's Institute will meet for the regular monthly meeting at the Hall. The Theme will be Citizenship and World Affairs with convener, Joan Morris. There will be an extremely in- teresting roll call to really make you think, "If you wanted to be an extremely independant woman - what career would you choose?" There will be a guest speaker. Mrs. Joyce (Tetlow) Heayn who spent most of her youth and young married life on the Island, with her husband, Alvin, gave up farming and moved back and forth between Port Perry and Haliburton. They finally decided Port Perry was the place for them, among former friends. For some time Joyce has experienc- ed some balance problems, which finally took her to the Wellsley Hospital for back surgery last Tuesday to correct an errant nerve. We are now pleased to report, that in spite of some leg discom- fort, she feels she can walk better and will soon return to the Port Perry Hospital where friends can see her more easily. But this family still has another concern for their youngest daughter, Julie, from Haliburton, who spent weeks in the Sun- nybrook Hospital following a serious road accident. She now finds the fingers on her right hand are not functioning and will cause a return to Sunnybrook Hospital for observation. All her friends are wishing improved health for her. While speaking of this family, we remember their daughter, Linda is married to the brother of Dr. Vladimir Hatchinski, shown in last weeks, Port Perry Star as being honoured for research. All his former, Port Perry school mates remember him and are pleased to learn of his outstanding success. In the moment of mentioning pictures, many people who receive the "Especially for Seniors" paper, were pleased to see the picture of Dr. Kingsley Joblin. It kindled memories of Port Perry and Island Associa- tions with his sister Gladys in the Port Perry teaching staff, Kingsley's occasional ministerial associations as well as his father and grandfather will their sojourn "on the Island and ownership of the Island Store. This ministerial family left many memories with FORDER-PARKS INSURANCE BROKERS INC. 34 Water St., Port Perry, Ont. You still have time to appeal your 1989 assessment if you feel your home or business property has been improperly assessed. Your assessment is important because the amount of property tax you will pay in 1990 depends on it. The assessed value of your property is multiplied by the municipal and school mill rates to determine your property taxes. Notices of Property Valuation were mailed to property owners and tenants whose assessments have changed since last year. Open house information sessions were held in your area to give you the opportunity to ask questions and correct any errors. The Assessment Roll was delivered to your municipality on February 27, 1990 and will be used to calculate the taxes you will pay in 1990. You can review the Roll at your municipal office during regular business hours. If you believe your prop- erty has been improperly assessed and you have not yet registered an appeal, you still have until March 20, 1990 to mail or deliver your appeal to the Assessment Review Board. And remember, even if you did not receive a Notice of Prop- erty Valuation, you still have the right to appeal. Appeal deadline: March 20, 1990 The Assessment Review Board is an independent tribunal under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. It is intended to provide you with an additional opportunity to have your assessment reviewed if, in your opinion, it is not fair and equitable with the assessment of similar properties in your area. The Review Board is more informal and relaxed than a regular court of law. You may present your own case, retain a lawyer, or ask a relative or friend to speak as your agent. To help you in filing your appeal, Notice of Appeal forms are available from the Assessment Review Board, your Regional Assessment Office, or your municipal office. You can also use the reverse side of a Notice of Property Valuation, or write a letter giving the property address and roll number along with your reasons for appealing. Appeals should be forwarded to the Regional Registrar of the Assessment Review Board at the address shown below. If you appealed your previous assessment, it will be necessary to lodge an appeal against your assessment with the Assessment Review Board each year, if the appeal against your previous assessment has not yet been settled, or your 1989 Notice of Property Valuation does not reflect the most recent decision of the Board. In those parts of Ontario.designated for French Language Services, you can appear before a bilingual (English/French) Appeal Board. Please check the space provided on your appeal form if you wish to use this service.
