Scala journey fo fournament On Saturday, February 24, the Port Perry Scala Pee Wee's travelled to Cobourg to compete in the annual Cobourg Communi- ty Pee Wee House League Tournament. This marked the first time that many of our boys were playing contact hockey. In the first game, Port Hope Spitfires were the opposition. The Spitfires took an early 3-0 lead before Port Perry connected with a goal by Sean Gawley assisted by Greg Thompson. Although Scala's Matt Phoenix later added a se- cond Port goal, the Spitfires went on to win this contest by the score of 6-2. The M.V.P. in the game for Scala was Greg Thompson. Undaunted by their early mor- ning defeat, the Scala boys took on an aggressive Cobourg team in the afternoon. The action was fast and furious in this game with the advantage constantly changing, until midway through the second period when Scala scored 3 goals within a four minute time span. Though Cobourg did mount a comeback of sorts in the third in- cluding a goal on a penalty shot, Scala hung on for a well deserv- ed 7-5 victory. Leading the way for Port Perry was Sean Gawly Complete Hi Tech Call: FIREPLACES OVER RIDGE RENOVATOR Reach Industrial Park, Unit 4, Reg. Rd. 8 OPEN Wednesday to Saturday 10 to 6; CLOSED Monday & Tuesday who scored three goals and add- ed two assists. That performance earned him the M.V.P. honors on the Scala side. Alan Calder scored once and added 2 assists, while Greg Thompson and Mark Dunn each scored once and assisted once. Matt Phoenix with his second of the day rounded out the scoring for Port Perry. Tony Waldriff, Mike Pashley and Graham Holt all helped to set up goals in this contest and played strong games as did Chris Vandermeer, Gavin Carneige and Ryan Williams. Kyle Simms distinguished himself in nets with several outstanding saves, and kept his team in the game particularly in the early going, until their scor- ing could get going. Despite this well earned vic- tory, Scala's performance on the day left them one and a half points shy of a semi-final berth. Despite the disappointing result the boys distinguished themselves against two strong adversaries and represented their sponsor and their town with class. Scala's next tournament will be the Port Perry House League Tournament during the March Break. [} [ ] 985-0715 RN ---- et ----
