The Port Perry Bantams have moved on in the playoffs as they eliminated Oshawa Red Wings last Thursday evening on their home turf with an impressive come-from-behind win. The In- sulators, sponsored by Goreski In- sulation, will move on to the quarter finals against Midland in what should be a good series. Game No. 1 was played Sunday evening up in Midland; and the team jumped to a 1-0 series lead with a 3-1 victory. Now to some old time hockey as Game No. 3 versus Oshawa was played Feb. 20th in Port, as the "Turtles" came out hungry and looking for a victory. Port got the job done as they shutout the op- position 2-0. Oshawa took a lot of penalties in this game and that hurts a team when Port's powerplay is clicking as the speciality team scored twice on their way to vic- tory. Port only took 8 minutes and coach Wilbur was pleased with Local youths in the swim Three local boys are really in the swim of things. Jeff Postma, Sandy Mark and his brother Colin are mem- bers of the Uxbridge Swim Club. The boys spent the weekend in Nepean with 11 of their teammates competing in the Provincial Swim Meet. The team left early Thursday afternoon for the three-day meet that saw them compete against the best young swim- mers in the province. Both Jeff and Sandy are swimming in six individual events. Jeff will tackle the 100 metre THE REGIONAL "MUNICIPALITY OF DURHAM PUBLIC breast stroke, 200 breast stroke, 50 freestyle, 100 free- style, 200 individual medley, and the 400 individual medley. Colin will team up with both Sandy and Jeff for two relay events in the boys 11-12 year old category. The team stayed in nearby Ottawa and got a chance to see the Parliament buildings after the meet. Results from the meet were pot available at the Star's dead- ine. Port's first goal was put in by their speciality team as J. Cochrane turned on the red light from just inside the hash marks off a juicy rebound. Laird feathered a pass to G. Cochrane who one-timed a shot that carom- ed off the goalies head before go- ing to brother Jay. You know what Jay did - he put er' in the net. A powerplay beauty. This goal was scored in the 2nd frame at the 8:55 mark. This game was a rather slow one as Oshawa set the tempo to a slow pace encounter. Port follow- ed their lead but managed to get the victory anyway. Port's second goal was scored by J. Cochrane as he netted his 2nd of the game. This again was a powerplay goal as Oshawa liv- ed in the penalty box most of the game. J. Cochrane skated out from behind the net into a maze of players before popping a backhand through topshelf where they keep the Friday night goodies. Assisting on the goal were Parry and McBride. Port's specialty teams are look- ing good as they scored twice on this night. An Oshawa player received a match penalty for a scary incident. McBride was kick- ed in the face by a skate and had . trouble seeing for a few minutes. Jason's all right now but has a strep throat. Hope your back soon in a Turtle, jersey, big guy. We could need some more offence. Vanderligt will also be missing action as he is having a knee pro- blem. Should be back soon. . Larocque got the call to play in this game and should be proud of himself as he recorded a shut-out in a playoff game. Lovely work 'Larock!'" Shawn stymied, stole and turned back Oshawa all night long. Coach Wilbur is pjeas- ed with what he sees but the team still has te work on some aspects of the game as they get lost sometimes. The next night Port was in Oshawa where game No. 4 was played. Port amazed everyone on this night as they came from behind to steal Game 4 and end the season for Oshawa. Port's specialty teams were clicking again as they scored 2 shorthand- ed goals and once on the powerplay. He bettered the op- position again in this game folks, way to be bun! Oshawa scored first in this game before it was Parry's turn, shorthanded. Parry snapped a 30 footer that beat the Oshawa stop- per - 5 hole. Assisting on this goal were the Cochrane brothers. The game was tied 1-1. Oshawa then took the lead before Port scored on the powerplay. It was Laird who let one fly from the point that bulg- ed twine after receiving a pass from G. Cochrane. J. Cochrane also assisted on this mark as Port was back in it. Port had the adrenalin going into the later stages of the game. This goal was scored at the 6:09 mark of the 3rd stanza. Port needed a goal desperately as the game was tied 2-2. With :22 seconds left, Port took a penalty. J. Cochrane and Parry manned the ice hungry for a goal. An Oshawa defenseman took a slap- shot that missed the net. The puck caromed off the boards into cen- tre ice. J. Cochrane jumped on it and carried it over the blueline, he made a great dippsi-doodle move to get around the defenseman before getting a shot on net. No goal, the goalie bet- tered him. Remember Parry was trailing on the play and Bingo -- in the net. This just proves good things can happen when you crash the net as Parry did on this mouth-watering goal. Port would advance and Oshawa would hit the links. Port had beaten Oshawa 3-2 in a barn- burner! ' The team was questioned by Blades at the conclusion of the game "'Do you guys like to scare me or something *?!*@*"' Blades was happy though as Port was moving on in the playoffs to the quarter finals against Midland. Port's next home game is Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at the Scugog Arena. Be there or be square. Both teams will flip for game No. 3.
