A year of hard work paid off when the 10-year old Port Perry youngster was presented with a gold medal for "best overall" in her division at a gymnastics meet held in Pickering. "I was so happy to win the medal. I wore it the rest of the day," she told the Star recently. Competing in the Cadet B Division against six other girls her age and skill level, Melisa won first in the floor routine, second on the:vault and third on the beam and un-even bars. Her point total from these four events was enough to give her the gold for "best overall" that day. She's especially pleased with her improvement in the sport of gymnastics.
