Wilbur not in race Breaugh seeks federal seat Marg Wilbur will not be seeking the NDP nomination for the federal riding of Oshawa vacated by the retirement of Ed Broadbent. Despite a story published last week that had Mrs. Wilbur as one of the possible candi- dates for the nomination, she told the Star Friday she will not bein the race. But the Scugog resident, past chairman of the local Li- brary Board and a long-time NDP worker in this area admit- ted that at one time, she was thinking about the nomination. Well known MPP Mike Breaugh announced last Thurs- day that he will seek the Party's nomination when a meeting is held February 26. To date, he is the only candidate in the race for the nomination, and Mrs. Wilbur told the Star she pre- dicts he will get it. The important riding be- came vacant on January 1 when former NDP national leader Ed Broadbent retired from active politics after a distinguished ca- reer. While the NDP is gearing up for the nomination, just when a by-election might be held is anyone's guess. Breaugh is quoted in pub- lished reports as saying he ex- pects a by-election either late in the spring or early in the fall.
