The defence and goaltending at both ends were well played. Stephen Parrish opened the scoring for Frank with a power play goal when he banged home a rebound from in front of the net. Four goals were scored in the last four minutes of the first period, two for each team. Mike Olaisen carried the puck out in front from the face-off circle and planted one home for Swamp. With the goalie down Mike Bardeleben scored from a scramble in front of the Frank net. Chris Cooper scored on a breakaway after stealing the puck at centre ice and Rob Romano was left unprotected and came out in front of the net, dek- ed the goaltender and banged one home to give Frank a 3 to 2 lead at the end of the first. In the second, the puck trickl- ed in after a scramble in the goal- mouth with Stephen Parrish get- ting credit for the goal. On a rush from his own end Carl Payne scored for Swamp to close out the scoring. Bantams romp fo victory The Port Perry Sportsland Ban- tams got the playoffs off to a good start Sunday night with a 9-2 vic- tory over Beaverton. Sean McEnaney led the way with four goals and three assists, while Steve Desautels pitched in with a goal and four assists. Port Perry inspired by a rous- ing pep talk by coaches Sandy Garvock and Pete Christie, got an early lead, and never looked back. McEnaney struck first, scoring in the first five minutes of the game on a pass from Desautels. The first period ended 1-0, but Chris McLeod scored early in the second frame, with assists going to Desautels & McEnaney. After this goals started to come quick- ly. McEnaney scored his second of the game from Desautels and then completed the hat-trick assisted by Chad Garvock and Scott Wylie. Todd Smart scored next on a beautiful pass from Mike Sluggett and then Sluggett got one of his own from Desautels and McEnaney. Port held this lead through the end of the_ second period. During the third period, Beaverton was no longer in- terested in playing hockey and they did their best to suck Port in- to stupid penalties, but Port managed to keep their cook and they got the first goal of the period, Noah St. Amand from McLeod and Jason Coutoulakis. Beaverton finally got on the board with a power-play goal, but Port bounced right back with Desautels scoring from McEnaney, and then McEnaney"s fourth, unassisted. Beaverton got their second goal on a play that was more than a foot offside, for which the linesman later apologized. The game ended with the 9-2 score. Matt Willetts, coming off a spectacular game in his last start, was solid in net for Port and could not be faulted on either goal. This was a penalty filled game, but for the most part Port manag- ed to keep it's cool. Some activi- ty in the crowd was quickly put to rest by the local authorities. Port's next game, another Payot match-up, is Wednesday night at 7:40 at Scugog Arena when Port will meet Fenelon Falls.
