28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 9, 1990 Twenty-four hour action! Mixed Br Port Perry held their first mixed broomball tournament this past weekend, and it was a huge Success. Winters from Lefroy took home the A division champion- ship by defeating local team Monsma cby a score of 5- 0. Chesterton, a team from Oshawa clinched the B division ousting the Oshawa Warriors by a 4-0 margin. M.V.P. for the Men's Divi- sion went to Brian Britnell, and Best Goalie award went to Remi Aumais both of K Winter. . Inthe Ladies A Division C.A. Steel from Sudbury, won over Silver Bullets from Barrie, by a score of 1-0. The B championship fea- tured the Spartons from Oshawa, against Best Door's from Oshawa. The Spartons won the championship 4-2 in overtime. The M.V.P. for the ladies di- vision went to Cathy Hefferen- nan, and the Best Goalie to Car- mie Cottner both of C.A. Steel. Six local mens teams, and bE one local ladies team partici- pated in this tournament. Local Ladies team, Courtice Auto Wreckers met C. A. Steel in their first match and lost by a 2-0 score. They contin- ued by defeating Woody's 2-0 in overtime, before losing to K Winters 3-1. Woody's won their first match over Keester Star from Toronto by a 2-0 margin. They then lost an exciting match to uccess Blackstock in overtime by a 3-0 score. Rick Lees played big in net this game for the Woody's team. Emmerson's defeated the Milbrook team 1-0 in their first match, but lost their second to The Framer's Gallery 1-0. The Framer's Gallery defeat- 7 ed the Barrie Warriors, and Emmersons both by 1-0 scores, but were defeated 6-0 by Mon- sma Electric. Monsma Electric received a bye their first game, then de- feated K.J. Jewellers 6-1, and The Framers 6-0. Monsma was then defeated in the A champi- onship game by K Winters by a score of 5-0. ! The games were all very ex- citing to watch as there were three overtime games, and one double overtime in the ladies division, as well as three over- time gamesin mens. Special thanks to the arena staff for a job well done, and to the Ringette, and Minor Hock- ey Associations for allowing us ice time for this event. The Blackstock Merchants gave it their all In this match against K Winter, but It was to no avail. K Winters, a team from Lefroy came out victorious with a 3-1 decision over the local Blackstock team. Aside from local teams, there were com- petitors from Oshawa, Bartle, Lefroy, Toronto, and Sudbury.
