Driving conditions on Christmas night and for most of Boxing Day were not at all good But how quickly the time flies by. Larry Hoskin of Lake Louise, Alberta spent the holiday with his parents Frank and Muriel Hoskin and other family members. On Friday night he joined the Hoskin and Graham relatives in atten- ding the Open House that Cheryl Graham held at her and her brother Rob's apartment in Brooklin, On Christmas Day the Hoskin family gathered at the home of Joan and Harvey Graham and Mark for their festivities. Larry returned home to mild Alberta on Boxing Day. Julie Bryant of Ottawa and Dwayne Bryant of Seaforth are spending a week with their parents George and Brenda Bryant and Chris. On Christmas Eve they held their traditional Christmas Eve gift exchange at their home with the Ormiston Clan. | . Christmas Day Mr. and Mrs. Dean Ormiston hosted their fami- ly 'Christmas dinner when their family all gathered. Ere Mr. and Mrs. Forest Miller of Kingston spent some time with _their daughter. (Values, Influences, Peers) is a program designed by the Ministry of Educa- tion, Durham Regional Police and the Durham Board of Education. As a key part of the Grade 6 Health curriculum, it gives students the knowledge with which to make the right choices during the critical growing-up years. It introduces students to topics such as vandalism, legal and illegal drugs and the operation of their local police department. Eight lessons and a tour of the regional police headquarters are conducted by a Police Officer. Follow-up lessons in the classroom further enhance the program. Financial support is given by local community service organizations. V.LP. is only one aspect of the Durham Board of Education's ongoing, in-school program to help today's students become tomorrow's good citizens. Others include _ guidance classes for intermediate and Junior students and individual school discipline The Durham Board of Eduction is proud of its many students who have participated in the V.L.P. program, and wishes to thank The Durham Regional Police Department Tysick. Christmas Day was spent with their granddaughter Sherry and Leon Slute with baby Justin as guests. A capacity crowd attended the annual Christmas Eve service at the Blackstock United Church on Sunday evening with many families gathering together. Beautiful music was provided by the Senior Choir & Rebecca Helsdon's choir as well much con- gregational singing of the carols. The Christmas story was read by Craig Larmer with Rev. Dale Davis providing Reflections after each section. A lovely service. There were 10 tables at the weekly card party with the follow- ing winners - Carl Ferguson, Ann Taylor, Mary Poots, Richard Manns, Charlie Fee, Clara War- ren Low - Ella Venning. Draws were won by Martin Stubb, Ross McRoberts, Ella Venning, Richard Manns and Jim Gibson. Morning Unit of U.C.W. On a very cold morning, 16 members of the Morning Unit and 1 visitor met at Jean Kyte's home for our Christmas meeting. Jean opened with a poem "More than a Merry Christmas." Margaret Mountjoy was in charge of worship. She read *'Our Gifts to Our Children" and we sang several carols. For the program Dorothy Ven- ning conducted a Christmas Trivia contest and also one on the new "Loonie" coin as we all look- ed at one for the answers. She really made us think! We enjoyed a delicious pot luck luncheon and a social time bring- ing 1989 to a close. by Eleanor Werry Mrs. Eber Snowden of Whitby spent a few days with her daughter Peggy and Ralph Larmer at Christmas time. She enjoyed Christmas when all of their family spent the day with Ralph and Peggy. Quite a number from this area joined relatives and friends from other points at the Open House which Mrs. Andrea Weir and family held at their home in Port Perry on Boxing Day. Dale and Anita Davis celebrated Christmas at the home of their son Peter and Margaret Davis in Toronto. Jim and Barbara Byers, Jeff, Julie and Jennifer, Shelley Holli- day joined other members of the Sedgwick family in Norwood on Christmas Day. Jack and Helen Green and family hosted a Green family Christmas dinner with Don and Marjorie Green and family as guests. On Boxing Day, Don and Mar- jorie Green and family hosted a Honey Family gather when Mar- jorie's parents Mr. and Mrs. Honey. from Warkworth, her sister and husband and family from Kingston and her brother and his wife and family of Warkworth all joined together. Robert and Sue Green from Guelph are spending some time with his parents. Blackstock lost one of its older residents last week with the pass- ing of Clarence Marlow who had been in failing health for some time. Our thoughts of sympathy are extended to his son Bill and to the other relatives. Gerald and Joyce Kelly, Elaine - and Esther spent Christmas Day at the home of Gerald's mother Mrs. Bill Kelly, Bobcaygeon where other Kelly family members gathered. On Wednés- day the Graham family gathering was held at the home of Elizabeth and Peter Peeters of Omemee where Harvey and Joan Graham and family Cheryl, Mark and Rob and the Kelly's joined together.
