Nestleton Women's Institute Christmas Meeting On Wednesday, December 6, 12:30 p.m. Rika Wygerde opened her lovely home, and graciously welcomed the Nestleton Women's Institute for their Christmas lun- cheon. After the bountiful buffet, president Neta Fish presided for the December meeting. After reading "I'll never change Christmas" the Ode and Mary Stewart Collect opened the meeting. : a The minutes were read by assistant sec'y Winnifred Davison, in the absence of Gwen Malcolm and approved, andRika 'reported on finances. The High School Award for Proficiency in Grade 11, had been given to Jen- nifer Fletcher at Commencement (Cartwright High School) Correspondence was read and a decision was made to give the usual cash donation to Operation Scugog for their Christmas Fund...and to Scugog Communi- ty Care in answer to an appeal for support. The Pennies for Friend- ship were rec'd, and a get well card signed for Irene McKee who is in Oshawa Hospital. Members were pleased to have three ladies as visitors." = The roll call was a donation of stamped Christmas cards, and after the list was read by Bertha McLaughlin, cards will be sent. out again this year. The motto - "'A'gift from a generous heart is beyond price" was well respond- ed to by Neta Fish. Other in- teresting readings were enjoyed and favourite Christmas Carols were sung. Several games of. Nestleton Presbyterian Church Greeter at the door for the mor- ning service was Barney McCabe. Joyce Taylor played 'the Christmas hymns so loved by all. Russell Brown lit Advent Candle No. 2. the Candle of Peace. Dorothy Lee took the children to their Sunday School class after the children's story. The congregation welcomed their new minister, Rev. William Fairley, who took as his Scripture reading, Isaiah 11: 1-10 and St. Matthew 3: 1-12. He spoke of the Righteousness of God's Peace and Judgment and the miracle of our Saviour's birth...both divine and human. It was fitting that on his first Sunday with the Nestleton Presbyterian congregation... .that Holy Communion was ad- ministered. Assisting the minister were Elders George Scott and Dorothy McCabe. All are welcome to attend the Sunday morning services at 11 a.m.. Wedding Vows Exchanged Wedding vows were exchanged on Saturday, December 9, 1989, by Jeffrey Handlsperger and Katherine Dunn of Caesarea. The setting for the pretty wedding was in the Community Church and Rev. Dr. W. H. Crawford was the officiating clergyman. The wed- ding music was played on the organ by Edna Beckett. The bride was given in marriage by her father Joseph Rosa. Many fami- ly members were present for the impressive ceremony...and later the reception was held in the Caesarea Community Hall. Jeffrey and Katherine will reside in Caesarea.. Very best wishes from this area to this young couple. Nestleton United Church The second Sunday in Advent with a smaller attendance, saw Arthur and Barbara Weir, Ken and David, the greeters at the door. Ken Weir read the Scripture Lessons from Isaiah 11 and Mat- thew 3. During the children's theme, Rev. Dale Davis discuss- ed the needs of White Gift Sunday and told the children to use their own ideas re- gifts for next Sunday. The minister brought to the con- gregation a splendid message re - leading up to the Christmas celebration. Jennifer Notman and accompanied on the piano by Bet- ty Headon. Carol Mairs was the organist for the service. Birthday Celebrated Clare and Madeline Curtain of Lindsay, were Sunday evening dinner guests with Neta Fish. This was a birthday celebration for Madeline. Calvin and Yvonne Holland and children were also guests. The lovely cake, gifts, with all the trimmings made for an exciting evening! All the best to Madeline for a good year ahead. Caesarea Community Church At the Caesarea Church on Sun- day morning at 11 a.m. an average company of people with Norma Stek conducting the ser- vice. The responsive reading was taken by Frank Arney and Scrip- ture lesson read by Dana Gibbons. With Rev. Dr. W. H. Crawford in the pulpit...the sermon title was - "No Room for Christ' with text: "Because there was no room in the Inn" from Luke 2:7. Very few people were aware of the Birth of the Christ Child - the Messiah! his mother Mary and Joseph his Father - Elizabeth - Mary's cousin and a few Jewish Shepherds. The Priesthood - in the great Jewish Church in Jerusalem - did not know about His Birth until the wise men from the East inform- ed them. The Inn was so crowded that there was no room so they had to go to the stable. There was a 'No Vacancy" sign outside that night. Many to-day have this "No Vacancy' sign in their hearts - they have no time to entertain the Creator and the Saviour! Organ music - Rev. Dr. Crawford. The Sunshine Club will have the Christmas programme, Sunday Dec. 17, at 7 p.m. Robert Rohrer of Regina, Sask. spent a few days visiting in Nestleton with Warren and Pat Rohrer and grandparents Mr. and "Mrs. Merv Miller, of Lindsay. The Nestleton Hall Board has purchased a large cooler for the Community Center...which will be most helpful for all the cater- ing, etc. held at the busy center. Notice: The Nestleton S. School Christmas concert will be held Sunday evening December 17, at 7:30 p.m.. ORT PERR auto glass & trim James Duncan was presented with a barometer last Fri- day evening by Freda Appleton, a gift on behalf of the peo- ple who work at Central Seven Industries in Port Perry. James also received a wooden carved loon from Central Seven employees and a print from the Board of Directors in recognition of his ten years as executive director with Cen- tral Seven Association for Community Living. James left Central Seven this fall to manage the vocational and recrea- tional programs at the Whitby Hospital.
