Do plan to come out and see our young people perform -- and Yes, the older ones as well, Even San- ta will be there with his jolly ho ho, and his pack on his back. Another week closer to Christmas, and many of the festivities are now under way. A good number turned out to the bowling party last Saturday night, We had a fun evening together bowling, afterwards en- joying refreshments at Mac- Donalds. All of us felt that we should have this get-together more often. On Wednesday evening of this week, the Ladies' Bible Class and W.M.S. join together with our men folk for a Christmas pot luck dinner in the church hall. Dinner to begin at 6:30 p.m. Following - the dinner, we will enjoy singing Christmas carols and a Christmas programme around the Christmas tree. Join together this Thursday evening at the Community Centre 'for another evening of euchre. This begins at 8 p.m. and I'm sure everyone will be in the holiday spirit. i A trust fund has been set up for the Madsen family whose home was devastated by fire a week ago Sunday. Donations can be made to the Madsen Family Fund at the Bank of Commerce, Brooklin. We are pleased to report that Grant Parrott 'is making favourable progress at Toronto General Hospital, and enjoys receiving cards and get well wishes from his many friends. Congratulations to Rod deWolde of the Townline Road who was recentiy a winner of the Stockmanship and Showman in the Jr. Barrow Show and Sale at the Royal Winter Fair. He receiv- ed a silver tray, a plaque and the first place ribbons, in the com- petition against 15 others. Last Sunday was the second Sunday in Advent. Ron and Stephen Death lit the Advent candles. Scriptures were read by Muriel Fisher and Florence Ashton. We were pleased to welcome. "Cantabile" a vocal group from Anderson Collegiate, under the direction of Mrs. Jean Stachow, Myrtle, and they favoured us with three selections. Rev. McEntyre's sermon was titl- ed "Mary's Song." Next Sunday is White Gift Sunday at Burns Church, when we remember those who are less fortunate than we are. The church school Christmas party will commence at 10:00 a.m. sharp. We will enjoy carol singing, a short Christmas pro- gramme with all the members of the younger classes participating, as well as lunch. Everyone is urg- ed to bring a wrapped gift and place it under the Christmas tree. Games & children's clothing, ages 2-8, ladies warm scarves, gloves, etc. Even candy treats. These gifts will be taken to the Y.W.C.A., Oshawa. On Sunday, December 24, there will be regular worship at Burns at 11:15 a.m. and we welcome everyone in the surrounding area to join with us for the beautiful Candlelighting Service at 8 p.m. This has become a tradition at Burns, and we all eagerly look forward to this from year to year. :- As we celebrate Christ's birth, join with us with your friends and loved ones as we rejoice together in Singing the beautiful Christmas carols. The Fourth Port Perry Guides have been hard at work recently on Citizen. Badges: learning all about the political and government structures in Canada. Scugog councillors Yvonne Christie and Marilyn Pearce have given the Guides an insight into municipal af- fairs. In the back with councillors Pearce and Christie and Guider Judie Cooper are Amanda Wakeford, Jennifer Cooper, Megan Cannon. Lee-Anne Wake- ford, Kathleen Lang, Wendy Sandison and Heather Osborne. The purpose of this badge work is to help the guide understand how Canada is governed and the rights and responsibilities of her citizens.
