Port refused to knuckle under to the bump and grind, and in the first minute of the second, Matt Morris pumped in a long shot off a Kenton LeFort assist. Friday night, at home, Port produced their finest effort of the season to bounce arch-rival Cobourg 5-2. Jay T., Dave and Sean staked Port to a 3-0 lead after 2 periods. In the third Cobourg threatened, but each time they scored Port replied within seconds as Jay T. and Bill restored the lead. Assists were registered by Sean and Scott with 2 each, and Chad, Billy, Jay T., Joe and Jason each adding 1. Steve supplied absolutely flawless goaltending, making several tough saves in the early going when Cobourg could easily have taken command. Hats off to the officials, as the boys played hockey and the refs let them, with only one minor penalty to each team. Saturday in Fenelon Falls, the boys were still asleep, but played as well as necessary to beat a grit- ty. host team 4-2. Dave, Kenton, Joe, and Sean supplied the goals, with assists from Joe, Billy, and Jay T. (2). The second game pitted Port against an AA Major team from Newmarket. This was a game similar to Friday night as the play was top calibre and the competi- tion strong. After a scoreless half game, Chad picked up Joe's pass, broke out and circled the net to find Dave in the perfect spot to fire an important goal. Sean doubled the lead with just over three minutes to play, on a pass from Joe. Newmarket got close with a late goal but Port held on for a tough 2-1 victory. - : Mike was strong in net as the shots were not numerous but were high quality chances. This was an excellent game with only one minor penalty per team. Unfor- tunately, Port suffered a damag- ing blow as Chad was added to the injury list suffering a broken arm in this game. . In the second period, Justin put in his second goal unassisted and Steven Kyte scored Larocque's third assisted by Justin and Steve Gilbert. Woodville then closed the gap with two goals late in the period. The action was fast throughout the third period until Jeff Fletcher popped in the insurance goal assisted by Scott Swain and Justin with only fifty-four seconds remaining.
