The time of year when we have left the fall season behind with its bright, refreshing days; gay with seasonal colours; and dreading the onset of winter! But! Evening UCW Meets 'The November meeting was held on the 8th, at the home of Arlene Malcolm. Unit leader Regenia Walker called the meeting to order with a cordial welcome to all present. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved, and the treasurer gave the financial statement. Under the business, a decision was made that the Unit would donate $200.00 to the Sunday School to cover their program ex- penses. A thank you note was read from Erin Malcolm for the gift she had rec'd while in hospital. The Christmas boxes for Operation Scugog was discussed and Joanna Malcolm volunteered to chair the committee and Kay Notman and Arlene Malcolm of- fered to assist. An interesting let- ter from the Foster daughter was read. Joanna offered to answer it. Members decided to help with the catering for January 25, at Nestleton Community Centre; more details will be forthcoming later. A discussion was held re - continuing donation of a magazine subscription to the women at the Whitby jail. Cummunity Church Caesarea On Sunday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m. a poor attendance, due to the ex- treme weather. The service was led by Norma Stek, with Rev. Dr. W. H. Crawford in the pulpit. Social Notes The Sam Cawkers of Scugog Point Rd., enjoyed lunch this past Friday, with Alan and Eleanor Cawker of Oshawa, and later an interesting visit with Mark and Cindy Cawker and baby Bethany Ellen of Courtice. Also enjoyed a visit with Curt and Christine Cawker of Cobourg, this past Sun- day afternoon, when they braved the cold and came to the farmstead. Joyce Taylor played the seasonal hymns for the Advent Approach. Scripture readings were from Amos 3, St. John 4, and John 1: 2942. The Sunday School children were told some of the symbols of Christmas... the music - the candles - the poinsettia - as we prepare for Christmas...Christ's birthday. In the sermon, Rev. MacDonald presented the coming of Christ as a "'prophet,"' one of His many characteristics. Following the service, a boun- tiful hot dinner was served to all by the ladies of the church, and Santa arrived with presents for the Sunday School. White Gifts were received, and also will be welcome next Sunday.
