PPHS senior girls advance to group finals On Tuesday Oct. 31, not only did ghosts come out, so did Port's Senior and Midget teams. The first team being the Seniors against Cartwright High School, our girls fought hard and put the first two points up on the score- board. The Port girls had a little more height than these girls and a lit- tle more bench play, but that didn't stop Cartwright to fight for that ball. Port had a work-out with Cart- wright, but came out on the win- 'ning side of the trick or treat bag, 51-43. Top scorers for Port were, Sarah Gorris 16, Terry Childs 11, and Jen Blanchard 10. For Cart- wright, Jill Van Camp 12, Yvette Renes 11. This game was followed by the Midgets playing Cartwrights Midget team. Our Midgets show great potential within this basket- ball season. We'll first say that our Midgets ran the scoreboard on them to final score of 59 for Port and 28 points for Cartwright. During this past week all three girl's teams played on Thursday November 2 against Uxbridge. To start off, the Senior girls played the last game of the season, they wanted to win. Well it was a tough game considering the ball going either way for the teams. Port's coach walked in and put some strategy into the game. We fought hard, and our fouls showed it in the last quarter near the end, hav- ing three of our tallest players fouling out. But with the help of other team mates, they kept the score on the winning side for us. Port winning 53-42 over Uxbridge. The Junior squad then followed up by playing Uxbridge. The girls fought for the rebounds under their own net. These Juniors ran up and down the court with that ball, but it just didn't get them ahead with points. They just pull- ed it through over the Uxbridge team by a couple of points. 'Senior girls go into finals soon with an 8 and 4 win in their group. Port Bantams blank Uxbridge Last Wednesday night the Sportsland Bantams hosted arch- rival, Uxbridge and easily won 4-0. The game was not as close as the score indicates, as a combina- tion of good goaltending by Ux- bridge and bad luck on Ports part, kept the score close. 'Steve Desautels led the way with 2 goals while Peter King and Todd Smart each scored once. Scott Wylie picked up 3 assists with Chad Garvock getting 2 assists and Noah St. Amond, Ryan Picard and Jeff Card all pit- ching in once. On the weekend the boys played in the annual Oakwood tourna- ment, Their first game was Fri- day night in Sunderland against Little Britain. Ryan .Picard scored Ports only goal with Sean McEnaney getting an assist. On Saturday afternoon Port moved to the bigger ice surface in Oakwood, and faced Gravenhurst. The boys played a much better game and won 2-1 with all of the goals being scored in the first period. Sean McEnaney scored Ports first goal deflecting Noah St. Amonds shot, Aron Royle also picked up an assist. Jeff Card scored the second goal on a nice shot from the blue-line with Todd Smart and Steve Desautels get- ting the assists. This win put Sportsland in the "B" semi-finals Sunday in Sunderland, against the home team. Port got on the board with 2 first period goals, an unassisted effort by Sean McEnaney and the second by Ryan Picard with assists going to Noah St. Amond and Sean McEnaney. Unfor- tunately this was Ports last goal as Sunderland kept plugging away to score 3 goals, 2 of which were in the third period to win the game 3-2. The Sportsland boys have a busy week coming up, hosting the Millbrook No. 2 team this Wednes- day at 7:40, then travelling to Newcastle on Thursday. They also go to Woodville for a tourna- ment on Saturday. OHA Jr. "C°' HOCKEY.
