MoJacks nip arch-rival Uxbridge in a wild Junior C tilt A whacky night at the Scugog Whenver the Port Perry MoJacks "and the Uxbridge Bruins get together for a Junior C hockey game, you can unsual- ly count on some wild and weird happenings. And that's exactly what transpired at the Scugog Arena Sunday evening as the MoJacks played host to their arch-rivals from the west. For the record the MoJacks fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the second period to pin a 5-4 loss on the Bruins, thanks mainly to a very strong third pe- riod in which they peppered Bruin net-minder Brian Harn- den with 31'shots. That win runs the MoJacks record to seven so far this sea- son, along with a tie and two de- feats, and the team remains in second spot in the standings be- hind Bowmanville but ahead of the Bruins. As for the wild and whacky events in this game. start with the playing of O Canada before the puck was even dropped. . It looked like Brutus the Barber Beefcake had run amok with his shears in the MoJacks dressingroom. Seems that all the "rookies" on the team ran into the same buzz-saw at a team party a couple of nights before. Hmmmmm. And late in the third, with Just six minutes to play, a mini- riot broke out on the ice with two main battles between Sin- clair of the Bruins, Wilkins of the MoJacks, and Winn from Uxbridge and Connors from Port. Referee Paul Ravary hooked Sinclair and Wilkins for game misconducts, while Winn and Connors got double-game misconducts which means they'll watch the next couple of games from the stands. After a quick-paced first period that ended 0-0, the Bruins came out smartly in the second to ring up a 3-0 lead on goals by Under- wood, Sinclair and Christie. Two were on the power play. At this point it looked like the MoJacks night be in for a long night, especially with the kind of goaltending the Bruins were getting from the diminu- tive Harnden. Finally at 13:23, veteran Len Giacalone fought his way into the clear in front of Harn- den and snapped a shot to the sa aa aaa a a AT Ae ae ad a top shelf. Steve Durham drew an assist. Just 50 seconds later, John Lally with help from Jim Gib- bens and Brad Menzies cut the Bruin margin to 3-2, and that's how it stayed after 40 long min- utes. Early in the third, the Mo- Jacks began to apply the "full court press" and it seemed to work as the Bruins floundered in their own zone. Giacalone with his second of the game, pulled the trigger from 15 feet out with a perfect shot to the low stick side. Todd Taylor dug the puck free to set him up. Jim Vernon put the Mo- Jack ahead for the first time at 7:13 on the power play with a shot along the ice as Kevin Gib- son drew an assist. And just over two minutes later, Lally shovelled in a re- bound off a Kevin Desrosiers shot to make it 6-3. That turned out to be an important goal for the MoJacks as the Bruins Kirk Smythe net- ted one late in the game with the goalie out for an extra at- tacker. Perhaps, they were feeling the effects of a gruelling schedule that had them play six games in eight nights, but the Eagles are a powerhouse this season. Two tough games coming up this week for Port Perry as they host the Lakefield Chiefs this Thursday evening for an 8:30 faceoff, and on Sunday, the Ajax Axemen are back in town fora 7:30 start. LOSSA champs The Senior Boys Volleyball Team at Port Perry High School have repeated once again this year as two time LOSSA Champions. The team travelled to Central High School in Oshawa, for a five team round robin tournamient, where the top four teams advanc- ed to the playoffs. Port advanced to the playoffs and in our semi-final match we were up against our arch rivals from Brock High School, who we defeated quite easily 15-1 and 15-8 after a lot of determination to win and team desire to advance to the finals. The finals for LOSSA this year would be an exact repeat of last year. Port Seniors versus a tough squad from Courtice. After winn- ing a back and forth dual 16-14 in game one, Port rallied and became LOSSA Champs once again with a decisive 15-5 decision. : Special mention goes out to J.D.
