Walkway to Victorian Village considered a must by council While most members of Scu- gog Township Council are not pleased with Ribcor, the devel- opers of Victorian Village, none are as angry as councillor Mari- lyn Pearce. In a raised voice, Councillor Pearce suggested to council Monday morning, "it's Ribcor's problem and they have got to fix it". The problem councillor Pearce was referring to, is the planned walkway from Victori- an Village to 7A highway. All attempts to have it con- structed have failed to date, and the unless an alternative can be found, it may be neces- sary to expropriate enough land for the walkway. Apparently one of the land- owners is unwilling to relin- quish enough property for a % walkway, and neighbours in the area are notin favour of it. Most members of council are adamant that a walkway must be constructed to enable people to get out of the subdivision. "We've got to find a way to get the kids out of that subdivision" Councillor Pearce said. When asked by Mayor Hall if she had any suggestions, Pearce replied, "we told them (Ribcor) the walkway had to go in, let them give us the alterna- tivesifthey can't putit there." Councillor Cochrane sug- gested that Ribcor may have to buy back one of the houses in order to put the walkway in. When the suggestion of ex- propriation came up, councillor Pearce said she was not going to forget about the walkway and let them off' the hook. A letter from Ribcor's law- yers to the Township suggests that land owners in the area of the proposed walkway are not in favour it being constructed, and are not prepared to volun- tarily grant a portion of their lot for the purposes of accom- modating a walkway. : The letter states, "it would appear if the Municipality in- sists on the construction of a walkway, some of the lands nec- essary will have to aquired by expropriation. Expropriation procedures can be a very long drawn out process and there is no guaran- tee the Township would suc- ceed in attaining the land. Council minutes will be available at Scugog Library The minutes of Scugog coun- cil meetings will be forwarded to Scugog Memorial Library in the future. At the suggestion of Council- lor Marilyn Pearce, council vot- ed unanimously to send a record of their meetings to the Library so residents can have access to them during the week- end. The minutes of council meet- ings are public property, and can be seen during normal busi- joss hours at the municipal of- ce.
