It was a beautiful evening for a hockey game and coach Wilbur and his squad were ready for anything. Port rnanned the ice, but came out slack. They had a phenomenal arsenal ready for attack as coach Wilbur decided to mix up the line combos. Port was told to play their bump and grind style because nobody likes to lose to Cobourg, just ask coach Wilbur. The game had started and the outcome was tremendous as Port won a heartstopper at the Memorial Arena 7-6. You should have seen the fans, all 68 of them, it was pandimonium. Thanks again to the veteran defenceman Chris MacLeod as he helped out the team in a winning cause. The penalty box was the in- thing in this confrontation as many veteran and rookie players decided to take turns sitting in it. The new lines were 1) Moase, Cochrane, Parry. 2) Laird, McBride, Logan. 3) Pashley, Em- pringham, Vanderlight. Shawn (Bunny) Larocque got the call in net and was outstanding for the home fans. Port was first to get names on the gamesheet as Laird and Logan broke over the blueline on a two on two. Logan gave the puck to Laird who picked the five- hole. Cobourg tied the game at the 4:59 mark. With a buck and quarter left in the first frame it was J. Cochrane who found net on a tremendous set up from Parry and Logan. A power play beauty. Fifty seconds later it was Em- pringham's turn to put one home. Pashley and Vanderlight got the puck to Dee who scooted behind the net and tucked it in just like No. 99 would have. Way to be Wayne, I mean Duane. Port seemed to come out flat in the second as their phenomenal arsenal had to take a breather and reload. Cobourg held the edge 4-3 as the 2nd period came to an end. The Zamboni would have to clean the debris off the ice before the 3rd frame could start. Port came out flying in the 3rd after the pep talk by Wilbur and decided to punish the cougar goalie by scoring 4 goals. Although Cobourg scored first in the third to make it 5-3 Port's arsenal did not retreat, they stuck on the cougars like ice-cream to a fat kid. At the 12:25 mark Vanderlight was the hero as he popped one home from McBride and Logan. Then at the ten dollar and 23 cent mark J. Cochrane decided to forecheck a little, and it payed off. He jumped in the air, knocked the puck down and before you knew it, it was in the net. Nice hand-eye co-ordination Jay Jay. An unassisted effort. Cobourg went ahead again 6-5. Port was not finished. Empr- ingham tied the game up at 6-6 as he won the battle in front of the net. Pashley and Vanderlight drew assists. Then at the 1:03 mark of the 'third, Laird got the call to play defence after watching the game for awhile and he threaded the needle to Parry's Christian. He and his friend skated from the redline to score. Port wins 7-6. Coach Wilbur wasn't too happy after the win but he'll take it. A note: Sorry to J. Early in the second period, Justin Kowalczyk kept the score from being 2-0 by jamming the puck under the goal tender, after the initial save, while the puck was on the goal line untouched. Port Perry came back to tie midway through second: period when Adam Jones scored assisted by Casey Vanchagan. At the start of the third period, Bruins took a 2-1 lead, but Port Perry kept the pressure on with several chances to score and finally tieing the game at 2-2 when Blayne Kin- nunen took a pass from Adam Jones feeding it across to Casey for the marker. Auctioneers opened their first regular season game in Lind- say October 22, with a 3-2 loss. Lindsay opened the scoring 35 seconds into the game. Then with one minute to go Port play started by Dillon Weber to keep the puck onside and feeding it up to Jonathon Reed who gave it to Adam Jones making it 2-1 for Port. Lindsay again scored early in the second period to make it 2-2, and the only goal of the 2nd . NO@® period. In the 3rd period Lindsay took a 3-2 lead. With 2 minutes left, Port pulled the goal tender Shane to try to get the equalizer, but after some great chances the game ended in a 3-2 loss for Port. Their next game is October 27 against Lindsay at home. See you there. DRIP Oilshin' Guaranteed rust protection for new and used vehicles.
