He is extracting the materi- al from land he owns on the Old Brock Road and hauling it to an- other section of his farm about a mile away on Concession Line .. Four. Scugog beef farmer David Morris is furious after he was told recently by MNR to stop hauling sand/gravel from his own property for use elsewhere on his farm. He Is pictured above in the area of his farm where he takes sand/gravel. MNR clamped down on him after receiving a complaint. (see article and see also editorial in this edition of the Star) wh. . 7 RS "I don't understand this. > I'm allowed to use trucks to haul manure, corn, bales of hay over Township roads, but I can : haul my own sand and gravel," * he fumed. He said he is not using the material for commercial (sale) purposes. In fact, he said the gravel/sand is not of sufficient quality to sell even if he wanted to. Ironically, alot of the mate- rial he is having hauled is being used for an environmental pro- - ject. He is now in the process of building several watering sta- tions for his Simmental cattle along a small creek that is part of the headwaters of the Non- quon River. The watering stations will keep the cattle from having di- rect access to the small creek, thus preventing pollution. Mr. Morris said he did not haul material late at night or early in the morning. He is especially annoyed that contractors are permitted to haul away excavated materi- al from a construction site, but the farming industry doesn't have the same right. He told the Star he has con- templated taking out some kind of a building permit as a way of getting around the regulations. And he plans to take his complaints to the Ministry of Agriculture. But he believes adamently that farmers should have the right to haul material from their property for use elsewhere on their farms, without having to go through all the red tape and expense of getting a pit li- cence. "I'm not selling this materi- al. I'm using it on my own prop- erty to improve the farm," he said angrily. THE TRAVEL SPECIALISTS ... "4 VIRGINIA FREW PENNY HEARD COLLEEN ANDERSON HAWAII ALOHA ...
