Snack bar could be used as tourist information centre next summer The Scugog Township Parks Committee wants to look into the possibility of using the snack bar at the lakefront base- ball diamonds as a tourist infor- mation centre next summer. Looking into this joint use possibility was just one of nu- merous recommendations sug- gested by the Parks Committee in a report tabled at the Oct. 2 meeting of council. Committee chairman Al Goreski suggested that if the snack bar was used as an infor- mation centre weekdays, it would not interfere with even- ings and weekends when base- ball games and tournaments areunderway. The committee will be con- sulting with Minor Softball which uses the snack bar to raise funds through the sale of pop, hot dogs and chips. The Parks Committee of chariman Goreski, and mem- bers Marilyn Pearce and Don Cochrane, toured parks in all four Township wards on Sep- tember 26. They were accompa- nied by parks foreman Steve Bull. The committe presented 399 Queen St. gGtonemogy 3 Y Cape @Centet® numerous recommendations to the council. They were adopted, but those involving capital costs will be subject to approval in the 1990 budget. The committee has asked for more sand to be placed un- der the playground equipment in Palmer Park, and a proper size fence around Birdseye Pool, and windscreens for the pool as well. It is recommended that trees be planted along the west side of Apple Valley Park, and that lighting be considered for this park. At the park in Perry Glen, the Committee wants to use grant money from the Kinsmen Club to up-grade pathways and the baseball diamond, and that the light standard in the centre of park be moved or removed. In the daycamp location at the Kinsmen Hall on Lilla St., the committee is suggesting a refurbishing of the play equip- ment, as well as permanent fencing along the Lilla St. side of the park. Crestview Park in Black- stock needs base maintenance, and new swings to replace the deficient equipment. The Com- mittee also recommends that two small pieces of pre-school play equipment be installed. The committee was less than thrilled with the condition of the playground equipment in Putsey Park in Caesarea. Though the Township owns this park (for tax reasons) there is a board to administer it. Committee members felt that some of the equipment in Putsey Park is in such poor con- dition, it could be hazardous to children. The committee wants Cart- wright Park considered for fu- ture use as a playground, and for a future EYC program. At the View Lake Park, the committee has asked that a "no dumping" sign be posted in the wooded areas, as debris and other refuse was observed. The Committee wants to explore the possibility of "joint- use" of the View Lake Park with Manvers Township. The Parks Committee rec- ommends that council must de- termine the exact role of the Parks Department when it comes to such things as road- side grass cutting. The Committee recom- mended that the Scugog Soccer Fields be included in a weed spraying program for the sum- mer of 1990. And the report contained a warning that signs should be posted for snowmobilers, in light of the fact the new equip- ment in Palmer Park is all- weather, and won't be removed this winter.
