oo mmr 2 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 3, 1989 Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive underway in Port Perry With the Thanksgiving Weekend nearly here, most of us are thinking turkey, cranber- ry, sweet potato and pumpkin pie. But for some residents of Scugog, Thanksgiving is a dif- ferent story. For any number of reasons, they have to rely on food from the Operation Scugog Food Bank. This week, Operation Scu- gog will be conducting a Food Drive. Donations of canned meat, fish, stews, fruit, peanut butter, cereals, rice, powdered milk, in- fant formula, and non- perishable foods can be dropped off at the Port Perry Fire Hall Oct. 6-8. (see the ad in this week's Star for specific times for food drop-offs) On Wednesday of this week (Oct. 6) the Toronto Star will be circulating special brown gro- cery bags for the food drives. All the food collected at the Fire Hall will be sorted by Oper- ation Scugog volunteers and then distributed to those in need in this Township. "This Drive is our main source to keep the Food Bank operating," said organizer Anne Wanninkhof. The fact:the Food Drive is being held Thanksgiving Week reflects the theme "spirit of sharing." Please check the ad in this week's Port Perry Star for times to make the food drop-offs at the Fire Hall, and take a few minutes to put together a bag of non-perishable food items or such things as soap and tooth- paste. This Food Drive can help make Thanksgiving a little brighter for those not so fortu- nate.
