26 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 15, 1989 Mosquitos now at ten straight : Homestead Furniture Mosquito Girls Soccer team continued their winning ways by beating Picker- ing 2-1 to make their record 10 wins and no losses. The first half was evenly played with good action up and down the field with neither team being able to score. The Furniture goals just couldn't get their timing and pass- ing to work. After a short pep talk the se- cond half began and at the 5:00 minute mark Kelly Phipps made it 1-0 on nice pass from Sara Cosway and Shawna Cornish. Solid work by Emily Cosway, Lisa Dodd and Elizabeth Scanlon kept the ball in the Pickering end much of the time. Again, Kelly Phipps recieved a crossing pass from Shawn Cornish and Sara Cosway and quickly made it 2-0. With time fast running out Picker- ing scored a goal to make the final score 2-1. Good performances were turn- ed by Erin Smith, Heather Brekin, Sarah Coyne, Kyla McCrae, Julie Ball and Michelle Brown. Next game Thursday night in Ajax and then on August 19-20 the girls are entered in a Select tour-- nament to be held in Port Perry. Good Luck!
