-- Watermelon party and Blizzard Days PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, August 15, 1989 -- 21 Enjoying summer at the Nursing Home by Wendy Clark Well it won't be long now till the kids will be back at school. The summer sure went by quickly. On the last day of July, we had a bowling match with Becky Gray winning with 123 pts. The following day was the first day of August and to celebrate we had a corn roast at the home of our activity director. Everyone enjoyed sitting around the fire on such a warm, clear evening. A special thank you to Gary & Lyn- da for entertaining us with their guitars. Also thanks to all those who volunteered their help to make the evening a total success. A good way to sum up the even- ing is said by Good Food --- Good Company --- Good Music --- !! Wednesday August 2 we hosted the ever-popular activity manicures. The following day was a busy craft session. Lots of projects are in full gear. We have been work- ing hard on silk scarfs, ty-dying, spice bags and "bums." In the evening we had a "Show & Tell." Many brought treasured pictures and revealled their story behind them, Blizzard Day was held on Aug. 4. What a great way to cool off on such a hot day! A lot of fun was had at morning exercises that were done to Christmas Carols. In the afternoon we had winter word games. To end the day everyone devoured delicious popsicle treats. After relaxing over the Civic Holiday weekend we got back in- to the swing of things on Tuesday Aug. 8th with having a Watermelon Party. Many residents had lots of fun taking part in many contests. Winners are Fastest Eater: B. Gray, Most Seeds: L. Blaikie and Best Seed Spitter: A. Williams. There was also a quiz and discussion. August 9 was a featured bus trip to Wind Reach Farm in Brooklin. This is a 105 acre farm geared for the handicapped. We viewed the many gardens that were all planted at wheelchair level. We took a walk along the boardwalk and took in the nice scenery. Everyone stopped for a picnic United service on Sunday Epsom and Area News by Jean Jeffery Sunday was a beautiful day and we had a wonderful picnic at Cameron Lake.
