The shot gun start is at 9:15 sharp, and organizers say that most participants will play through the eighteen holes by mid-afternoon. Organizers are hoping to see a fine class of golf again this year as enthusiasts young and old try their luck at bettering some impressive, long- standing records. In many fam- ilies of summer and year round residents, several generations will be competing with each other for the coveted titles in this challenging competition. Numerous prizes will be awarded to participants in- cluding the Des Prime Memori- al Trophy and a special award for the Junior Flight. Top fastball teams set to descend on Port Perry One of the premier sporting events of the summer will get underway August 4 as 16 teams go after the $1,000 top money in the 16th annual Port Perry Fastball Tournament. The tournament will wrap up on August 7, the Civic Holi- day Monday with champion- .ship games at the Port Perry di- amonds. In total, there will be $2400 up for grabs in this tournament which is hosted by the XL Ea- gles Club of Port Perry. Eagle manager Doug Scott said fastball fans will see some top calibre teams in this tourna- ment, including the defending all Ontario Intermediate C 139 WATER ST.. 6 HIGH STREET PORT PERRY champs from Bracebridge, and the always tough Cold Springs squad which has won the tour- nament the past two years. There are four Toronto . teams entered, along with Rich- mond Hill, Sunderland, Milton, Cobourg and Oshawa. And there will be two local teams in the action: the host XL, Eagles and the Nonquon Trav- ellers. The Greenbank Gamblers, however, will not be in action in Port Perry that weekend as they are off to a Senior tourna- mentin Burlington. The games get underway Friday evening, August 4 with action continuing non-stop in the four divisions until a winner is finally decided on the Mon- day. In all, there will be 34 games played over that week- end at the Port Perry diamonds.
