Korbak fired a 7-0 shut-out over Bradford Merchants to give Gamblers the victory and first place money of $500 in this seven-team double knock-out tournament held at the Port Perry diamonds. The powerful veteran right hander was at the peak of his game in the final, throwing 14 strike-outs and coming within a couple of outs of a perfect pitch- ing performance. (see story At Cobourg tournament Bantams fall just short This past weekend, the Cana- dian Tire Bantams participated in the Cobourg Tournament and were beaten by Peterborough in the championship game. In the first game, Port Perry beat Rideau Osgoode (Ottawa) by a score of 10-3 with Richard Brough picking up the win. In the second game, the team met an old rival, Unionville, and won by 7-3. The winning pitcher in this match was Brett Puckrin with 10 strike outs. Strong batting Good hitting from Brent Ressor, Aaron Scallon and an out at third by a collision with Deviyn Falkner holding her ground allow- ed Marlin Travel to defeat Home 'Hardware by a score of 13 to 11. Playing well for Home Hard- ware were Susan Edwards, Mathew McMaster & Mathew Caldwell. . The third game against Belleville was tense and exciting, and ended in a 3-3 tie. This allow- ed Port Perry to finish at the top of their Division, and advance in- to the championship round. In the championship game, Port met Peterborough with its "gas tank empty" and with the heat, humidity, and four back-to- back games taking their toll. It was a close game except for the sixth inning when Peterborough hit for 6 runs, and won the game 9-3 Hitting for Port Perry were Brett Puckrin with 5 singles and 3 RBI's, John Ennis with 3 singles, 1 double and 3 RBI's, Dar- rell Vander Slagt with 2 singles, 2 triples and 3 RBI's,Richard Brough with 2 single, 2 doubles and 3 RBI's, Scott MacLennan with 1 single, 2 doubles and 3 RBI's, Stephen Laird with 3 singles, a home run and 2 RBI's, Brad Moase with 2 singles, 1 tri- ple and 2 RBI's, Jason McBride with 3 singles and 1 RBI, Ken Winslow with 1 single and 1 RBI, and Jody Logan with 1 RBI. The coaches, parents, and spec- tators congratulate the team for excellent team play throughout the tournament. In the two regular season games, Port was not so fortunate and was beaten by Scarborough Ford, 6-5. A very strong Scar- borough Freeway Rep team also defeated Port Perry with a score of 13-3. Gamblers went through the tournament without a loss as they defeated Zephyr 3-Oon a two hitter by Ken Goreski. And Korbak went the dis- tance Saturday morning to de- feat Port Perry XL Eagles 5-1 as he allowed just four hits. The only run for XL came in the second inning when Jeff Bricknell connected to send the ball over the fence in left centre.
