bi. x 34 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 5, 1989 Grad ceremony at Sep School Graduation ceremonies were held last week at Immacu- late Conception School in Port Perry, with 21 students receiv- ing their grade 8 diplomas. * As well, several students were presented with special awards for outstanding work in academics, citizenship and ath- letics. Jerry Blackburn was the recipient of the Parents Adviso- ry Committee plaque for aca- demic achievement, and the E.J. Finan award for effort in grade 8. The awards recognize out- standing achievement in aca- demics and athletics. The athletic trophy for girls was presented to Denise Lines for academic effort, citizenship, and sports achievement. Charlie always finished his morning game in time to be home for lunch by 12:30, and when he was not home six that evening, Charlie's wife began to get very worried. When he finally staggered through the front door an hour later, looking very tired and be- draggled his wife asked, what happened, did you play three rounds today. : No, replied Charlie. Just 18 holes but I thought I would never make it around the course. We were on the third tee when I hit the ball and it veered to the right and slammed John in the head, knocking him out cold. From then on, I had to hit the ball, drag John, hit the ball, drag John. Laurie Gladish was the re- cipient of the Bernadette CWL award for citizenship in the school community. Erin Connell was named recipient of the same award. Kevin Ellis and James Price were presented with the athletic award for boys in recog- nition of their outstanding ef- forts and accomplishment Mr. J.
