Le ee i SE Scugog makes changes in summer rec programs Changes have been made in Scugog Township's summer rec- reational program but one thing has stayed the same--fun! Tina Soomre has been named program coordinator for Scu- gog, and it's her job to make sure the new programs are run- ning smoothly. In past years, "Playground" was held in major Scugog com- munities (such as Port Perry, Blackstock, Prince Albert and Greenbank) five days a week. Parents paid $16 a week per child, and kids enjoyed a variety of activities. But because of the low cost, playground staff and "campers" were forced to do some fundrais- ing throughout the summer to defray costs. Still, Miss Soomre says the program was losing money. This changed. To start with, the old "Play- ground" format is gone. In- stead, the summer program for kids is divided into Day Camps and Playgrounds. : Day Camps are offered to children aged five to 12 in two locations--Port Perry (Kinsmen Hall and Birdseye Park) and Blackstock (the Blackstock Rec Centre). The program runs from 9a.m. until 4 p.m. but working par- ents can relax as abefore and af- ter camp program from 8a.m. to year, things have 6 p.m. is also available. Each week the campers will participate in theme activities geared for their age and inter- est level. Swimming, nature study, campcraft and canoeing will form the core. There's also junior olympics, baseball, soc- - 'cer, hikes, trips, sing-songs and cook-outs. Day camp sessions cost $40 per week/per child and run July 3-7, July 10-14, July 17-21, July 24-28, July 31-August 4, Au- gust 7-11, and August 14-18. Some people have already complained about the increased cost ($15 compared to $40) but Miss Soomre said the price had to be raised in order to keep the program going. There won't be any fundraising this year, she added, and there are more ac- tivities. *T don't think they (parents) could get a babysitter for $40," she said. Campers must bring their own lunch and beverage each day, and on rainy days, activi- MAGNETIC SIGNS For Trucks, Cars, etc. PORT PERRY STAR 235 Queen Street 985-7383 A Lawn-Lasting Investment STX Lawn Tractor Sale Price: $2695. 985-9701 'The John Deere STX38 passes its long-lasting qualities on to you and your lawn.
