The guest speaker was Mr. Brian Jones, a grade 1 teacher at Green- bank School. He proved that the attention of the young children can be held much longer than some of us could have done. The Piper Mr. Erin Bennett and the Jr. Sunday School class provided the music. Next Sunday Mr. Rick DeJong, vice-principal at Ux- bridge Public School will be guest speaker at Pinedale Sunday School Anniversary. The Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. will be held at the home of Muriel Gibson on Wed. June 7 at 1:30 p.m.. All ladies welcome. Congratulations to the grand- parents Mr. and Mrs. Mel McGee on the birth of Jenna Lynne Beat- tie daughter of Debbie and Brian Beattie. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Minten celebrated their 40th wedding an- niversary last Saturday. They renewed their wedding vows in Sacred Heart Catholic Church: then entertained about 80 guests in the church hall to a dinner and dance. Congratulations to the Mintens. On Friday evening June 2nd pupils of Mrs. Betty McGee had their piano recital in Greenbank United Church with Mrs. Dot Hooker acting as M.C.. Those tak- ing part were Becky Bagshaw, Jeff Couch, Tracy Clarkson, Jay Fletcher, Craig and Amanda Robinson, Renee and Leanne Parish, Danielle and Mandy Lefort, Dana Hooker, Stephanie Watson, Holly Beattie, Charity Jarvis, Lisa Timms, Barbie Phayre, Adam Hunter, Amanda Elliott, Jennifer Galberg, Marg and Dodie Bell and Jay King. On Tuesday . May 30th the Greenbank Brownies and Moms enjoyed a delicious pot luck sup- per for their year end meeting. Presentations were awarded to several girls, with the Fly up ceremony being the highlight of the evening: Ten Golden Hand Brownies were presented their wings and then '"'blasted off' for Guides via their very own space shuttle. These astronauts were Amanda Baker, Tracey Clarkson, Laura Hooker, Krista Kittle, Adrienne Mitchell, Jennifer Ouellette, Holly Stone, Corrie Stowe, Mandi Trotter and . Stephanie Watson. Congratula- tions girls for a job well done! On Saturday June 3rd, the Greenbank Pathfinders, Guides and Brownies hosted the 3rd An- nual Sunderland District Rally held at the school. Sparks (our newest and youngest girl guides) Brownies, Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers attended this fun- filled Birthday Party to com- memorate Lady Baden-Powell's 100th birthday, from Beaverton, Cannington, Sunderland and Greenbank with over 150 leaders and guiders. The day proved to be a huge success. Thanks to the organization and hard work by those who took part. Congratulations ladies on a job well done. The regular Women's Institute meeting will be held on Wed. June 21st. More details next week. More ladies will be welcome at the next meeting at 9:15 a.m., July 6. Just phone Cheryl 985-7516 for a reservation for $3.75. Next Sunday June 11, the 5th Sunday of Pentecost and 64th an- niversary of Church Union, the Island United Church will realize a Sunday School Celebration of the year's work. During the period for story, the children will receive their awards for atten- dance and studies accomplished. Then they will attend classes as usual. Following the regular service children, parents and adults will remain for the annual picnic. Games and contests will first be enjoyed followed by a pot luck pic- nic lunch. It is hoped that families will bring lawn chairs. The Youth Group of Island United did a fine job of a general clean up and on Sunday were pleased to accept gifts of plants for landscaping. They will have their own special Sunday in 2 weeks. You are likely aware that there is no longer a paper collection by the Scouts. But if you have saved a winter's collection you may take them to Blackstock or Port Perry for recycling.
