PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 16, 1989 -- 31 = Concern for Junior C loop as Lindsay goes to Jr. B The Ontario Hockey Asso- ciation has awarded a Junior B franchise to Lindsay, which means the end of the Lindsay Muskies of the Central Junior C League. The application for Junior B was approved May 9 by a three-man committee from the OHA. The team will play in the Junior B league that includes such centres as Oshawa, Pick- ering and Peterborough. The new entry will be head- ed up by Clayton Ellis, who has had a long association with the Muskies of the Central Junior C League. The Club will be sponsored by Century 21 Real Estate, and coached by Randy Hall, who skippered the Junior B Vau- Awards night (From page.30) the scenes." The MoJacks last year, ran into some early problems on and off the ice, but put together a very strong second half to fin- ish fourth. They defeated Ajax in the first playoff round before falling in six games to Welling- ton in a controversial and at timesbitter series. By the way, the all-Ontario Central Junior championship was decided over the weekend as the Bradford Bulls defeated Hanover Barons 7-2 to wrap the series up in six games. Hanover had forced game six with a 5-4 win on home ice last Thursday evening. The final game had to be played in Richmond Hill as the ice was taken out of the arenain Bradford. With the announcement last week, there are already concerns being expressed on what impact the Junior B fran- chise might have on the Central Junior C League. Murray Parliament, gener- al manager of the Junior C Port Perry ModJacks, told the Star this week he believes the im- pact could be negative. He thinks Lindsay will have no choice but to take players who might otherwise have played in the Central Jun- ior C League. And this could extend as far as Port Perry, he said. He also questions how Lindsay expects to compete at the Junior B level when the town has been one of the weaker Junior C entries for the last sev- eral years. Meanwhile the Central Junior C annual meeting will be held early next month, and Mr. Parliament said the Lindsay situation will certainly be topic for discussion. Two centres, North Fronte- nac and Earnestown have ap- plied to the OHA for a Junior C franchinse. But it is not known at this time if they have been approved by OHA or if they will end up the Central Junior C League.
