As a resident of Concession 11 East, Scugog Island, I am puzzl- ed by the supposed road improve- ment (?) work which was im- plemented by the Township 3 weeks ago on our Concession roads on the Island. _ A grader, seemingly with good intention (?), has scraped up all the Concession roads in our area, including Conc. 11, 10, 9, etc., leaving behind hundreds of rows of deep and unavoidable potholes the full width and length of the road, over which dozens of vehicles must drive every day just to get off the Island in to Great young teens To the Editor: My son had a party after the prom Friday night at our house. Due to past information on how students damage other peoples houses, it was with much ap- prehension and concern that we allowed this party to take place. We are certainly glad that we allowed the party to take place. Other than a few spills and loud music the night went off without a problem. Other than getting to DESIGN & by Studio bed at 5 a.m. everyone had a great time. We are more than willing to allow our sons to have a party. To the students who came to our house Friday night, thanks very much, you are all to be congratulated for acting like perfect gentlemen and ladies. As 1 said, Port Perry has some very good young people. If you don't think so, just ask me. Why was this work started and not completed? If it is left this way much longer, the cost of our vehicle repairs will outweigh the cost of the road repairs. Sunrise Beach Road, one of our busiest residential roads, is an ab- solute disgrace, all the way over to Concession 10, via Aldred's Beach Road, and becoming almost impassable. There is a continuous chain of potholes and large ruts across the full width and length of the road. It is not even fit for walking on anymore. Surely our high taxes are wor- thy of better service than this. Please, Mr. Cuddie, look into this serious problem, and make it soon. J. Jarvie, Scugog Island Separate School mill rate is set by Kathy LeFort Trustee On Tuesday, May 9, the Durham Region Roman Catholic Separate School Board set the Mill rate for 1989. On a house assessed at $3200 the taxes for the year would be approximately $876.27. This is an increase of 15.10 percent. Overall spending is up 14.5 percent this year throughout the Durham Region. The total budget for '89 is $110 million. The first budget draft the trustees saw was up 22 percent from 1988. Full Board meetings were held in which the budget was trimmed to its final standing. I feel this is a realistic and fair budget, and am confident that quality Catholic education will continue in Scugog Township and the whole of Durham Region.
