Sutton zoning The heated controversy over Mr. Laverne Suttons gravel truck rezoning applica- tion in Ward 4 reached a head in a public meeting Monday. Lawyers representing the applicant Sutton-Dorrell and the opponents Richards and Beatty made presentations to the council. An audience of ten watched as the legal represen- tatives laid out their positions on the proposed Industrial re- zoning of land beside the Town- ship equipment storage sheds. _ Councillor Cochrane estab- lished that stockpiling was defi- nitely not being considered for this proposal. Councillor Pearce inquired as to the estab- lishment of a "grandfather clause" which would allow the zoning change to remain in ef- fect only as long as Mr. Sutton owned the property - legally very difficult. Councillor Malcolm sug- gested that the reason this pro- posal would not fit into an in- dustrial fark plan is that a park would not allow a residen- tial building. Mr. Sutton would refer not to have to travel too ar from his home to perform minor repairs on his equip- ment. Mr. Sutton is a private gravel operator, who current] works from his home in Nestl. ton. With the development of a subdivision beside his proper- ty, he wants to move his opera- tion to an area of less concen- trated population.
