Ten year old Leslie Dowson of Whitby has been making big waves in the swimming pool recently much to the de- light of her Scugog Township grandparents who are mighty proud of her accomplishments. She Is being called the top ten year old swimmer In Canada following a meet In Edmon- ton recently where she won seven gold medals and a sliver. Leslie Is a member of the Iroquois Swim Club in Whitby, and she's the daughter of Christoper and Elizabeth Dowson. Her proud grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Allin Dowson of Port Perry and Mrs. Gwenyth Thompson of Port Perry. Don't be at all surprised to see this youngster in a future Olympics. Membership of the club has in- creased to over 300 kids, giving eight team Mini League, and new Squirt Mini Soccer Division, something new to Scugog Soccer with six teams, and four team Atom Division. They are scedul- ed to play and practice on Mon- day, Tuesday or Wednesday nights. There will be three Mosquito Boys teams and two PeeWee Boys ateams will play in an interlock- ing league with Uxbridge and Stouffville. Something new to Scugog Soccer is a new "under eighteen" boys team which will go into Oshawa Durham League. Each team will have its won sponsor, thanks to the tremen- dous support of the local businesses. Please come to see your team play. The Club request that all coach's and managers meet at the soccer fields on Wednesday night, May 24 at 6:15, for a coaches meeting. For more infor- mation please call Don Farquhar- son 985-9635. Season will open for the Mini, and Squirts on Tuesday May 30, at 6:15, and for the Atom and Wednesday May 31, at 6:15. The travelling teams meet at the coaches request. Another new feature this season will be a three division tourna- ment to be held during Festival Days. The Atom and Mosquitos will play in eight team division tournament at the Scugog fields, Clean up! To help defray some of the parks recreation cost this year Minor Softball has organized a day of spring clean up at the ball diamonds. With the help of the Men's and Ladies Lob Ball, and the Men's leagues we will try and spruce up our diamonds. The ben- ches will be replaced and painted and the grounds cleaned up. If anyone in town can spare a cou- ple of hours on Saturday, May 13 from 9 to 4, let's meet at the park and bring rakes or paint brushes. Let's make Port Perry a proud place to play baseball. We are also very pleased to an- nounce that we have been selected to host the 0.A.S.A. Pro- vincial "C" Mite tournament, ages 9 and 10, Aug. 26 and 27. There wil be about 200 boys com- peting for this title.
