Herrema receives 'Satanic' threats Regional Chairman Gary Herrema has been receiving threatening phone calls and at least one letter pertaining to the proposed 'Megalandfill' in Pickering. Concerned residents of the hamlet of Whitevale and Pick- ering have been imploring the . Chairman to stay out of the Greater Toronto waste man- agement proposal. Chairman Herrema said 'that he had received several hostile phone calls over the last week on the landfill issue. Herrema said, "I received a satanic letter the other day ... it was very well written." The letter contained refer- ences to the destruction of Her- rema's property if Durham ac- cepted the Greater Toronto proposal. Herrema was nonchalant about the threats. "But Iam go- ing home and taking the phone off the hook," he said. Other Regional Council- lors have had similar calls, try- ing to influence their vote on the issue. : Last = Wednesday, the Council decided to table the vote for four weeks , and to hold a public meeting in Pickering. The plan suggests using a site near Whitevale referred to as P1 for a new landfill for Greater Toronto. Whitevale is located south- west of Brougham, almost on ow Pickering/ Markham bor- er.
