mn Lions prevail in the Atom final The Port Perry Lions are the champions in the Atom House League as they defeated Tripp Realty 2-0 in a very well played game Saturday after- noon. As the score indicates, this was a close game from wire to wire with plenty of end to end action that kept the crowd of parents and friends on their feet. Lions got their first goal in the opening period off a goal- mouth scramble as Matt Phil- lips was able to tap in a loose puck sitting near the line. Phil Donnelly set up the goal as he took a shot from a sharp angle and the puck travelled along the goal line and then off the post. . The teams then went through a scoreless second peri- od and most of the third period. ~The Tripp players worked very hard to get the tying goal, but the Lions also worked hard to protect their slim lead. _ With just over two minutes to play in the third, Lions got a much needed insurance marker as Noah Smith grabbed a re- bound in front of the Tripp net and made no mistake with a quick wrist shot. Matt Phillips and Matt McClelland drew the assists on this goal. Jamie Trick recorded the shutout for the Lions. He wasn't quite as busy in his net as Michael Wilson in the Tripp cage, but both boys came up with some key stops to keep the score close. These two teams had been rivals through the entire house league schedule and it was fit- ting they should face each other for the championship. Saturday's game was very well played with each team tak- ingjust one minor penalty. The Lions worked very hard on the defensive aspect of their game. Congratulations to the players on both teams for an ex- cellent final game and a fine season.
