ds a -- a. Juveniles could wrap up series The Port Perry Juveniles are not about to let a little adversity stand in the way of their quest to continue to the next round of the OMHA playoffs. - The team has had a protest ruled against it, lost its coach for a couple of matches, yet still has re-bounded to stand on the thres- hold of defeating Trenton in the eight-point series. The Juveniles came up with a huge effort in Trenton Sunday night to bring home a 5-3 victory, and a lead in the series seven points to three. They could wrap things up once and for all tonight (March 7) at the Scugog Arena with faceoff at 9:00 PM. A win or a tie is all they need. 'Last Sunday night in Trenton, John Lally, Blair Philips and Ja- mie Menzies staked the team 10 a . 3-0 lead in the first period. Trenton narrowed the margin to 3-1 before Mark Barkey and Willie Edwards went to work late in the period with a pair of goals (set up by the other) that really ce- mented the victory. Trenton was able to come back with two more of their own in the second to make the score 5- 3, but Port tightened down the de- fensive screws in the third to pre- - serve the win. Edwards, Philips and Phil McBride each had two assists in this game. Wayne King and Doug Scott handled the coaching dutics behind the bench as head coach Dave Bar- key is on the shelf for a couple of games. In Port Perry's 7-5 overtime victory March 2 in Trenton, coach Barkey and his Trenton counter- part had been forced to sit out be- cause of penalty totals in a previ- ous game, However, the Trenton team lodged a protest, claiming that Barkey was giving instructions to his team from near the bench, and the OMHA office up-held that protest, stripping Port Perry of the two points. And to top things off, a game that had been scheduled for Port Perry last Saturday evening had to be cancelled, when the Trenton team failed to arrive at the Scugog Arena due to poor weather condi- tions. But the protest, the lost points and the cancelled game are all behind the Port Juveniles now. And the players are hoping for a large turn-out of fans at the Scu- gog Arena tonight (Mar. 7) as they attempt to end this series once and for all. This team, sponsored by Key- Bar Office Equipment of Port Per- ry is the only PPMHA squad still going in OMHA playoff rounds. How far can this team go? Come on out to the local arena and find out for yourself.
