Realty Novice team wins area tourney On Saturday, February 25 the Remax-Scugog Realty team from the Novice Houseleague represented Port Perry in the Cannington Minor Hockey Novice Tournament. The boys put out a total team effort throughout the tournament. They defeated the hometown Cannington team 15-0 in the first game with Tommy Keeble recor- ding the shut-out. The first period belonged to the 2 goaltenders, Jamie Trick for the Lions and Kyle McClymont for Lewis. Both of these boys had to be on top of their games as the teams stormed each others end looking for the first goal. The Lions opened the scoring 6 minutes into the second period with Noah Smith scoring assisted by Scott Prechitko and Matt McClelland. Ryan Duff from Terry Jellicoe and Matt Phillips gave the Lions a 2-0 lead.The Lions extended their lead when Ryan scored following a goalmouth scramble assisted by Colin Outram and Terry Jellicoe. Ryan Larmer in net for Whitby also had a big first period as he kept Tripp off the score sheet until Johnathan McCourt scored assisted by Jason Brain and Jamie Irvine with 2 minutes to go. The second period saw Tripp score 4 times. Matt Phoenix gave them a 2 goal lead with Steven Cochrane assisting. Matt scored again this time on the powerplay with Steven and Johnathan help- ing out. Again with the main ad- vantage Johnathan scored assisted by Matt. Johnathan then got his hat trick late in the period assisted by John Sax and Steven Elliot.
