This brings to three the number of representatives in the Star's advertising depart- ment, with Valerie Ellis assum- ing the duties of Advertising Co-ordinator and Pat Webster as the senior advertising sales representative. Mrs. Hutchings brings a wealth of newspaper experi- ence to the Star, with exten- sive knowledge of graphic de- sign and advertising. She had devoted the last five years to the Metroland newspaper chain, as Assistant Pro- duction Manager at the Scarborough Mirror. At the Mirror, Mrs. Hutchings was responsible for producing the Stouffville Tribune, the Markham Economist & Sun as well as the Mirror. Her office also produced a monthly business publica- tion, a glossy city 'magazine and a multitude of flyers and inserts. 'As well as acting as floor manager, she did much of the graph- ics work herself. Mrs. Hutchings began her career with Metroland as a typesetter, and knows the newspaper business inside and out. She also worked closely with advertising clients and is looking forward to making sure Star clients get the best value for their ad- vertising dollar. Mrs. Hutchings was born and raised in Oshawa but has lived with her husband Martin in Port Perry for nearly two years. When she's not working at the Star, Mrs. Hutchings can be found looking after her two Arabian show horses, doing ceramics or quilting. Confident, friendly and knowledgeable, Mrs. Hutchings will be- come a valued asset to the Port Perry Star.
