Feb. 14th at 7:00 p.m. at the Sunderland Town Hall, with the official opening by Brock Township Mayor, Don Hadden. The festival will run for a total of 9 days through to Feb. 24th, during which time over 1,000 en- tries will pisticipate) in 171 vocal, piano an trumental classes. The festival provides a forum for young musicians from the Brock, Scugog, Uxbridge, Mariposa, Eldon and former Georgina Township areas to per- form publicly and receive assess- ment from' professional adjudicators. As usual, a large contingent of musicians from: the surrounding areas will participate this year, including choir and instrumental groups from the public schools, as well as choirs, triple trios, jazz bands and concert 'bands from . Brock, Uxbridge and Port Perry. "There will also be many area en- tries in the various vocal, piano and instrumental solo and duet classes. Three outstanding adjudicators 'Junior TERS rangers The Ontario Junior Ranger Pro- gram is an ideal summer ex- perience for youth interested in outdoor work in resource 'management, This annual in- i itiative provides 17 year olds in an ~ opportunity, along with Ministry staff, to administer, protect and * conserve public lands, waters and associated resources. Interested students are en- couraged to apply as soon as possible since each student is selected on a first-come first- served basis. This year's deadline is March 31, 1989. Students must be 17 years of age by December 31, 1989, but not 18 by July 31, 1989 (born between August 1, 1971, and December 31, 1972). The program is open to students who are enrolled in an Ontario secondary school and eligible to work in Canada. Brochures describing the pro- gram and application orms are available at 'local high school guidance offices, or by contacting the Ministry of Natural Resources, Human Resources Branch, Junior Ranger Program, Whitney Block . The piano class will be adjudicated by Mr. Raymond Vacchino from Don Mills, the vocal by Mr. Paul Coates from Toronto and the instrumental by Mr. Gordon Craig from Kingston. We are very privileged to have. the use of a baby grand piano, donated by Mr. Irwin Smith of Ir- win Smith Music Limited, Port Perry, for the piano classes. Stars of the Festival Concerts, featuring all class winners, will be held at the Sunderland Town Hall on Feb. 28, Mar. 1 and Mar. 2 at 7:00 p.m. The Sunderland Lions Club is justifiably proud of its 32 years of involvement in the development of young musical talent in the area.
