(From page 22) ed. Mother Miriam Ruth's Catholic Religion believes in the mystery of the Trinity (three per- sons in one God). The parallel for this cast is also true; the three 'act' as one. Individually these actors show an incredible grasp of their characters. Sandy James- Mitchell as Dr. Livingston makes us believe that her own guest for truth in the case of Agnes, as well as her own personal life, is traumatic, yet enlightening. Her asides with the audience are almost penitential in nature; tender, humorous and gripping. This is one of the theater's "choice" roles and Ms. James- Mitchell successfully meets the challenge with courage and con- viction. Her performance is rivoting. Sherri Todd as Mother Miriam Ruth interprets a complex character in very real terms. Her acerbic nature is balanced with a tenderness, shrewdness and toughness that allows this character to play a pivotal role in this mystery. Her stern, knowing and sometimes elusive glances show a subtlety that indeed takes this character to great heights in terms of interpretation and delivery. Ms. Todd gave us a masterful performance. Halie Vogel as the noviciate Sister Agnes mesmerizes and challenges us to discover the inner-truth inherent in this play. Sister Agnes' sweet young in- nocence, and seemingly naive nature are counter balanced by a distraught, emotionally over- whelmed, possessed person who holds the keys to this play's secrets. Ms. Vogels' concentra- tion, superb facial expressions, lilting voice, and ability to transform the mood and expres- sion of her character, makes this role plausible in every sense. Ms. Vogel's performance is spell binding. This play succeeds on many levels, mostly due to this '"'trium- phant triumvirate; " the three are truly one. The magic of the theater rests in many ways with the creative people who 'breathe life' into a production. There was magic in the Town Hall for this production. The imagery in this play was interwoven within this set. The multi-coloured draped backdrop and life-sized white cross in the upper center stage were effective- ly employed as images and symbols. Kathryn Cleveland's intense and thorough research obviously helped in all technical aspects of this show. Dianne Foote's costumes and Tracey Casteel's make-up design complimented and enhanced the mood and inter- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 13, 1968 -- 23 Agnes of God intensely moving production pretation of this show. These peo- ple should be congratulated for helping 'breathe creative life' in- to this production. '""Agnes of God" was ad- judicated on Sat., Dec. 10 as part of the Central Ontario Drama Festival. She stated that "... this was a completely honest and truthful play... the actors gave a great deal of themselves... it was ap- prop priate that at this time of the iIstmas season such a play about miracles and hope should be presented."
