Many from this area attended and enjoyed this annual event that seems to improve greatly year by year. On Sunday evening a capacity crowd attended the Intergenerational Service of Carols and Hymns that was held at the Blackstock United Church. The C.C.P.S. Band under the direction of Mr. John Beirness, various sections of the Sunday School, both Junior and Senior Choirs all contributed numbers to the evening's pro- gramme that included the singing of many old favourites of carols and Christmas hymns. During the evening Rev. and Mrs. Chas. Bull and young daughter were in- troduced as the St. John's Anglican minister. Following the service members of the Youth Group gave out candy canes to all in attendance. Curling will be beginning next week at the arena which has undergone considerable renova- tions this fall. After a short business session, during which it was announced that the District Annual Meeting will be held in Greenbank United Church on May 25, 1989. Dona- tions to local charities were also approved. Jane King gave an ex- tremely interesting and infor- mative report of her attendance as delegate to the Annual Conven- tion of Women's Institutes at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. This being the last meeting of the Scugog Island Women's In- stitute in 1988, the Christmas theme was in evidence, both in table decorations and the pro- gram, under the supervision of Harriet and her group. Exchange gifts were placed under a miniature tree, and punch was served, with distribution of gifts being interespersed with stories of the Legend of the Christmas Tree as a focal point of festivities in many countries. This topic had been well researched by Harriet and her Committee and proved most interesting. The evening closed with coffee and appropriate seasonal cakes and cookies being served.
