Hockey's back at Cartwright After an absence of some 15 years, hockey is back at Cart- wright High School. Sixteen players are wearing the school's blue and gold colours on the ice this season, and they will be facing some good compe- tition in the Durham High School League. CHS has played one game al- ready, a 2-1 loss to Harwood Sec- ondary School. "That's not too bad consider- ing we only had two practises to- gether," said coach Peter Fawcett, who's the principal at CHS. He has an extensive back- ground in coaching hockey at the high school level and said this summer when he took up his new job at CHS that he would like to look into the possibilities of forming a team for the school. "vote for | Tia Woodcroft a woman of compassion Ward 1 - Councillor Unfortunately, because the team was not organized before June, CHS will only be playing exhibition games this season, plus the Harwood Collegiate tour- nament in Ajax. Mr. Fawcett said that if things go well this winter, CHS will ap- ply to get into the Durham league for next season. He expects the team will play about 20 games this winter, and CHS will be on the ice this Wed. November 9 against O'Neill at the Manvers Arena. "I think we are going to be competitive this year," said Mr. Fawcett. This is full contact hockey, although high school rules include tough officiating, plus an auto- matic four-game suspension for any fighting. \_ * Careful Spending Of Your Tax Dollars. * Improvements To Roads & Municipal Services. * Proper Controlled Planning of Housing Developments.
